Hi All!

I had a Mirena IUD put in just over a year ago and have since developed a big acne problem! I've read a little about it on the internet and it seems I'm not the only one. I've read that some have been prescribed a low-dose birth control pill on top of the Mirena to help keep the acne in check. Does anyone have experience with this? Has anyone successfully cleared up their acne while keeping the Mirena? Is the best solution to have it taken out and go back on the pill?

I've always had very minor acne, but my face has really just exploded since getting the IUD. Please help!

What can I do next?

Hi M.!

I have a girlfriend who had this same problem (she would also get cystic zits too...huge ones that last for a week) Not trying to be pushy but I am a District Manager for Arbonne which is all botanical based products. I would be more than happy to meet up with you so you can try the face line. It helped a ton with my friend. (she still once in a while gets the cystic zits, but has said she sees a major difference) You can email me offline at ____@____.com if you have any questions.

Good luck!

I also have a Mirena, and since having it "installed" have read some pretty scary things about it. I've almost had it removed several times. In addition to 2-week long periods, I've experienced joint pain, and, now that you mention it, my previously clear face has been more breakout prone. I've talked to my gyno about it and she advised me to give it more time. I've now been having periods on it for about 6-7 months, and they do seem to be mellowing out a bit, but if things haven't gone back to normal in another few months I'm having it removed and going back on the pill. It's too bad, since several of my friends have the Mirena and love it.

Hi! M.,
I had Mirena & developed acne, as well. Now, I don't know what caused it-- either the birth of my 11 month-old or the Mirena-- which was placed 6 weeks after I delivered. Either way, I decided to have it removed, not only because of the acne (which I also got on my upper thighs and arms), but also because I was feeling bloated & gassy all the time.
It's just been about a week & hard to tell if it's made too much of a difference, yet.
I am a nurse and was bummed by it's removal because I feel it-- as well as-- most modern birth control, has been researched and is a great way to maintain a spontaneous sex life, not to mention how beneficial it can be for women suffering with terrible periods and PMS. Granted, it will affect everyone a little differently, but if you have no risk factors, birth control such as this and the pill have made a huge difference in many a woman's life.
What has been working for me, as far as the acne is concerned, is Clean & Clear Continuous Cleanser plus the Clean & Clear astringent-- which I then follow-up with Clean & Clear gel for spot treatment. It seems to be working fantastically!
I did quite a bit of research on acne care lines & this one got rave reviews-- and, best of all, it doesn't break the bank.

Good Luck!

I am a nurse...and sad to say but I DO NOT take any kind of prescription or non prescription medicine. as a licensed professional I have seen to many side effects. With what you are taking your skin is reacting because you basically have a toxic substance in your body. I have seen so many young girls end up with a blood clot to the lower calf. In all my years I never used a method of artifial birth control. Please do some research so you can protect your self. www.livegreeneasy.com
