My husband and I are going to Korea in August with our son who is due in a few weeks. I was wondering what we were allowed to have checked in (baggage, car-seat, stroller etc..) plus our own bags. My husband is in the army so from what he remembers when he went alone in '07 he was allowed one checked bag and a carry on. I will be having most of my clothes in my husband's checked bag with his clothes, then I figured I would use my one bag check to check in his stroller/car-seat combo. I am just not sure what the army is going to pay for because everyone knows now if it's over a certain weight or amount of bags they charge you. Just wondering to all those military families if they have been through this? Any info will be appreciated.
Thank you all for your info, no I haven't booked the flight, that is the army's job to do that since we are going with the army. Lucky for us they pay for our bags and tickets. I will do more research on what we need to bring or what we can bring. I believe we are flying with Delta because Army only uses Delta and some other airlines. My husband has already been to Korea once and took Delta. So thank you all. :)

Check directly with your airline...regardless of who purchases the tickets - most often kids items like car seats and strollers do not count against your checked baggage. Also if this is a PCS move, you will get instructions from Transportation as to all the shipments you will have.
Good Luck - I have friends there now who will be leaving this June after a 2 year accompanied tour and they have had a really nice time over there.

I believe carseats are not counted at all for carry on or checked luggage as they are a necessary item everywhere. The stroller is usually checked at the gate again as no charge. Since you have a combo, I think you should be able to check at the gate. That way you will be able to use the stroller during any of your layovers.
I have traveled several times on army money. You get two 70 lb bags per person. Don't go over 70 lbs or they can get you with a charge. You can even bring 2 per child. When I traveled to Alaska I had a 10 yr old, a 18 mth old and a 2 mth old. They paid for a seat per child and so bags came along with that. I also had a purse, diaper bag, stroller and car seat. Very hard to get from plane to plane with all the junk necessary for 2 kids under 2 and thank God my oldest daughter was such a good help. Now the soldier himself is different. They get one but also another for equipment needed immediately upon arrival. Of course most airlines will let soldiers in uniform have more bags if necessary and they are in the green duffle bags. When you get your tickets they will give you more specifics.

You are traveling internationally as well, so you need to check with "international travel" and do a search on it for info.
You should also call your airlines, that you will be flying with, and ask them any questions. Did you already book your flight?

You also need to make sure "how" to pack properly, so you don't get stuck or have things in your bags confiscated, due to security rules etc. And that your suitcases are the proper size... if not you get charged.
Do not do the researching at the last minute... it will take time to make sure you got everything and packed properly, and travel sized regulation accepted containers for checked baggage and carry-on baggage etc.

Car seats and strollers are not considered checked items. You can also bring the stroller all the way to the gate and they can check it there. Each passenger that buys a ticket is allowed one bag. Military personnel are allowed larger bags and an increased weight limit- probably because they travel for extended amounts of time and are doing a great service for our country. Whichever airline your travelling with- go to their website and they'll have all the specifics for you if you have any other questions.
