Hi all! I am 8 months pregnant and extremely uncomfortable with lower abdomen aches and pains, and a lot of inner thigh/pelvic pain due to the weight of my belly. Has anyone ever tried the pregnancy belly bands? If so, do they help and what kind or style is best? Thank you!!

What can I do next?

I had a lot of sciatic pain with my first and used one that was basically just velcro and elastic, and I was pretty skeptical it would do any good. I think it was just called a maternity belt, but my doctor recommended it. It was so helpful, I couldn't even believe it. I'm not sure what would work in your case, but I wouldn't hesitate to use one again even if they seem silly.

I used one with my first pregnancy toward the end. My boy was big (for me) and I carried low. My hip kept popping out, so I would walk a few yards and have to wrangle the dang thing back in. I did not really have pain but it was soooo awkward! The band really helped relieve pressure and made things much easier.

I used one with my 4th and 5th pregnancies because my round ligaments stretched and my pubic joint separated. I was so miserable because I hurt all the time. It hurt to sit, stand, lay down. The belt made a huge difference. Mine had the belt with the criss-cross straps in the front and back. I joked that it looked like some kinky harness but it really did help and the straps added to the belts ability to take the bulk of the weight off my lower back and pubic bones.

I'm glad it works for some people.
I tried one for my back pain during pregnancy, and it didn't help me at all.

They aren't very expensive though, so since some do see success with it, no harm in giving one a try. Keep the packaging, and if it doesn't help after a day or two, take it back.

Yes! It helped tremendously! Mine was simply a very wide band of elastic with Velcro on the ends. It took just enough pressure off to make my huge belly tolerable. Mine was a hand-me-down do I don't know where it came from...

Hope this helps!

I agree with Rocio...you need to be in regular chiropractic care. It will not only help your back , but your health and your baby's health!

Never used it. I had back pain with my 2nd pg and chiropractic visits stopped all pain. Last 2 months are so uncomfortable. :(

I never used this either, but I wish I had known about it. Brooke Burke (4 kids?) uses a belly band AFTER the birth, to help flatten the stomach. Women in Guatemala use a fabric wrap after the birth for the same purpose and have for decades. I think either choice is worth looking into. Maybe you can find one used on Craigslist.

I had horrid fibroid tumors and couldn't stand the pressure so I used two different types. I started with one that was just a big band or belt like thing. Once that wasn't enough support, I switched to the one with the cross over straps like Lisa C. used. Loved it! It offered so much more support than the big band one that I wished I had started with the criss-cross first! Good Luck!

I used one when I was pregnant but found it helped more the second time around so it probably just depends on how you are carrying. I don't think I paid that much--got it at Babies R Us or Motherhood.
