Make the claim.
You'll save yourself some money in the long run.
They are a good company, will get your taken care of & if (probably won't)
your policy was adversely affected....it would go up very little.
I backed out of a long driveway onto a dark, narrow street, and hit a car parked on the side of the street :( The car's owner has been very gracious and is working with me. I wanted to try and take care of it without involving my insurance company (USAA), but the first quote she got for repairs was over $1300 and my deductible is only $500. She is going to get two more estimates, but I'm not hopeful it will be much better.
So my question is, has anyone made a similar claim with USAA? and if so, how drastic was the effect on your insurance policy? For background, there's just me and my husband on the policy, we're both over 40 and have no claims/tickets/accidents etc. TIA!

My husband's rate went up about 6 dollars a month. They were very speedy, no problems and he really likes them a lot. On a really rainy day he hit a car in an intersection that was turning and my hubby didn't realize they had changed the way the lanes were laid out since the last time he was in that city. :( No injuries, thank goodness! So, anyway, very minimal change in the policy and very good to work with!
ETA: I should also mention that at the time of the accident he was only 42. That may have been a factor of his rate going up a bit. Even so, 6 dollars is really good!
:)
We've had USAA for about 12 years & love them! My husband has gotten sideswiped, my niece (who was on our insurance) lost control & hit another car, & I've been hit (no fault state so both parties were deemed equally at fault). Our insurance has never been raised due to these issues. I thought it would after my niece's incident but even that didn't affect us.
I wouldn't think it would affect your rates, especially since you guys have such good records.
I've had USAA since 1997, when I married my husband.
We have them for house, life and auto insurance as well as banking. I know it sounds like we have all our eggs in one basket, we don't. **I** bank at USAA, husband banks at (gag) BofA.
When I bought my minivan in 2012, someone hit it in the Harris Teeter parking lot, messed up the passenger side. I was upset, I believe I even posted about it here. I called USAA and they had a rental car (a Chrysler 300c (ooh bad...bad...bad!! smiles!! what a swwweeet car!!) and two places where I could take it. Paid the $250 co-pay/deductible and had my van back in 4 days.
The Christmas AFTER I bought my van (a mere six months later) we had a wind storm, I was at my girlfriend's house and her son's basketball hoop fell on my windshield, front hood and cracked my windshield and severed the drivers side mirror. I called USAA - they had a truck come pick up my van (kinda dangerous to drive with no driver side mirror) took it to the place that fixed my car six months before, arranged a rental. Paid the $250 co-pay/deductible and was on my merry way.
Our rates have NOT increased.
You had an accident, that's what insurance is for. Get your car and her car fixed. Place the claim.
I have USAA car insurance, and it is wonderful. A few years ago, my husband and I each got into separate car accidents on the same day. (Both our faults.) There was substantial damage to all cars involved. No injuries. My car was totaled. Our insurance never went up.
Go ahead and file a claim. That's what the insurance is for. Good luck!
We have had USAA for over 20 years and love it. Have filed several claims and they have never raised our rates. However we did lose our safe driver discount for several years after DH had an accident in which he was at fault.
My husband backed in to my parents car when it was parked in our driveway (long with a turn around spot). Our deductible is $250 and we paid it. Our rates didn't go up barely at all, if any. I don't think any. I would claim it.
This is why we have insurance - to cover these costs when they come up.
Tyler and I have had USAA since he joined the Air Force as an officer in 1988. Well, I should say Tyler had it, we weren't married then.
We have filed four claims in all of these years. One was my fault, like you, hit a parked car (we were in Boston during the worst snow storm in years). No rates raised.
We had someone hit Tyler's car ON BASE!! And no one left a note, it was considered uninsured motorist. No rates raised.
The other two were household claims for damages, again, no rates raised.
I would just call USAA and tell them what happened, they will send an agent out and you can get this resolved fast. If you haven't filed any claims in the last 2 years, you should be fine!
They never raised our rates after auto or house claims. We have found them to be nothing but super helpful and accomodating in all matters. Good luck.
I had a similar experience backed into someone. We have USAA and I called and filed a claim because I really did a number on the other car's bumper.
The claims rep was super nice and I was in tears. However my premiums did NOT go up as my husband and I feared and they offer accident forgiveness that after so long that claim would be forgiven and go off my record.
I didn't pay anything for the other car to be fixed. I would only have had to pay the deductible if I had had my own car fixed (and my damages were around $400 of our $500 deductible). So I didn't get my own car fixed.
I love USAA they have always been a great company to work with on our home and cars. I think they are very fair and I am now not worried about filing claims with them as they have worked so well with us in the past.
I would file the claim personally and let USAA handle it...their repair shops might get a better deal for the other driver and you won't be out the cost of repairs personally, after all isn't that why you pay for insurance?
Good luck, you can PM me if you want.
USAA is great. Make the claim.
We have accident forgiveness on our USAA policy so the rate won't go up for your first accident. Check to see if you have that on your policy.
Mine hasn't gone up... ever and I've had them for 14 years. I've hit a van, used the PIP when I got hurt in an accident (not my fault) and just recently had them pay a claim for a truck that was hit by my car due to someone else. They are amazing!!!
I agree with K. W. USAA is great! Make the claim!
I had USAA for YEARS and they are fantastic about claims. Call them.
