She may have a yeast infection or even be allergic to the brand of diapers you are using.
My 10 week old daughter has been suffering from Cradle Cap. I have been putting Vaseline on, letting it soak in, and gently combing out the scales, and started using "Mustela" newborn shampoo. Any other recommendations? (Plus, my 15 year old has suffered from a form of this since he was a child. Nizoral dries out his hair badly..this is what his Doc recommended years ago...it doesn't really work for him..any advice in this matter would be great, too).
My daughter also has a very raw, red bottom and front. It almost appears to be peeling. I have been trying to give her "naked time" to expose the area to air, and change her as often as possible. Does anyone have any recommendations for products to treat and/or prevent? Thanks!
Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I went and picked up some "Pinxav" at the drugstore and the redness cleared up the next day!! I also used just plain water and gauze to clean her and let her bum "air out" (she enjoyed "naked time"...it is so cute..she kicks her legs and giggles, and we even sing a "bare hiney" song lol) I did check with a nurse and did some research, and ruled out a yeast infection (thank goodness!). I am so grateful to have this resource! Thanks again!

For the diaper rash thing she may have a yeast infection and a small UTI is possible. I went through this a few times and my daughter still gets the redness. At one point it was swollen so bad i got scared and all it was was the yeast infection. Nothing has helped. If she is on an antibiotic those cause yeast infections too. My ped and the ER gave me a prescription for lotramin (yes it is for athletes feet but it seemed to help a little bit but not great. I have used vagisil because it contains something in it that will numb it up a little if she is uncomfortable. Also watch the soap you are using on her bottom. Use plain dove bar soap(the white one) it works well and is hypoallergenic and smells good. I hoped I helped a little, just to let you know my daughter still gets them and she is potty trained and given a bath everyday and I wipe her and make sure she is clean and dry afterwards. It seems she may not get rid of this unless she grows out of it.

My son had a bad diaper rash that we had trouble getting rid of. Diaper rash creams, vaseline type creams and even prescription creams didn't work well for him. A nurse recommended NOT using baby wipes at changing time but rather using gauze or cotton with sterilized water. After patting him dry we sprinkled him with baby powder. We also washed his bottom every night before bedtime with mild soap and water, again patting him dry and applying baby powder. The rash cleared up by the second day.
(When my kids were first born our pediatrician had recommended not using baby powder because of dangers associated with inhaling powder. I found a roll-on baby powder at the pharmacy. I didn't want to touch the roller to the skin and contaminate it so I would gently squeeze the bottle to get the powder to come out. It wasn't enough to make a cloud so I felt we were okay and I was desperate to clear up my son's rash. I thought I should mention this warning to you.)

hi i may have a suggestion for the raw bottom. it could be a yeast infection. i know it sounds strange but my daughter had 1 at 3 months of age i was under the assumption that it was a bad diaper rash however it was a yeast infection lotrimin for athletics feet is what gets rid of it. you can buyit at giant eagle over the counter. i hope that works for you .... the naked idea is also helpful. my daughter is 3 and she still loves to run around naked. good luck
Hi S.! Well, it's been years since I had to deal with either, but since I started babysitting a 9mo old everything has been rushing back!! LOL Anyway, for the cradle cap I used to rub babyoil into the problem area then use Baby Magic liquid baby bath. I used it on their hair and body...your son could use it as well. For the diaper rash I recommend you go to Giant Eagle (I don't know if other stores carry it) go to the pharmacy and ask for pinxav (pronounced pink salve). The staff at Akron's Childrens Hospital used it when my girls were babies and it works great. You don't need a percription for it...and a small jar lasts a long, long time. I used it when A&D ointment just wasn't working anymore. Give it a try, I'm sure you won't regret it!! Good luck and happy holidays!!
Hi! for my daughter i only used baby oil and then combed through it softly. I'd think Vaseline would be to heavy for cradle cap.i used the baby oil every other day for a week then it was all gone.I also hated the nizoral shampoo. I have never heard of the shampoo you are using.I'd say take your older son to see a dermo peds can only help so much.As for your lil ones diaper rash i'd take her to peds if it is that bad. i'd be worried about putting anything on it whie it's peeling or red.have you changed soaps, diapers or anything recently? when my daughter got like this we would let her soak in the tub and let her air out off and on,but the only thing that seemed to work for her was a med called niastantian Cream {think spelled wrong}I know my ped also recomended neosporn first then apply cream. I hope this has helps some.
My doc told me to use bsby oil on my daughters cradle cap. Rub it in really well 5 to 10 minutes before bath. Wash it out really well and use a fine comb to brush it out, Yourolder son may have psoriasis(I think I spelled it wrong) I have that and it looks a lot like dandruff but it isn't/ Try T-gel or T-sal by Neutragena. It is kinda pricy but works really well when used right. Once you get it under control you can cut down using it to once or twice a week, if you wash your hair everyday with something else. Good luck!
