Any Recommendations for a Girl's Weekend to Missouri?

Hi Mamas, I need some help. A friend and I want to do a girls weekend. We would like to try to include another friend of ours who lives in Missouri. She's been divorced a year and money is tight, but she desperately needs some "girl time". She lives in Springfield, MO and I would like to keep it withing a reasonable driving distance from her so she won't have to stretch her budget too far. Does anyone know of someplace to go for a little R & R. We're not the gambling type & we're not looking for a "wild" time, just a kind of relaxing or interesting place. I'm planning to cover the lodging with some Sheraton points I have, so ideally I'd like to find somewhere that is large enough to have a Sheraton/Starwood brand hotel.

I know this is a lot to ask, but I'm hoping maybe some Missouri transplants may have some recommendations. I really appreciate it.

K.

So What Happened?

I decided against Branson. It's definitely someplace to consider for a family vacation in the future, but for a girls only weekend, I felt that Kansas City had the most to offer. None of us is into country music, so that was another reason. So, we will be staying at the Country Club Plaza. I've seen pictures of the hotel and it's awesome. I can't wait to go! We're planning to go to the Nelson and hopefully do some window shopping and a spa day.

I really appreciate the help and your ideas. The Mamasource mamas are the best resource out there. I know my girlfriends and I will have a fantastic time.

We just drove through Branson on our family vacation. We stayed 2 nights there. They have a ton of shows, amusment parks and country themed events. We stayed at the Grand Victorian. There are also a lot of cabins avaialble. But, we didn't really research it.

I am unfortunately living in Kansas City, KS right now as we await the sale of our home so we can anxiously move to Frisco.
So, about 45 minutes away is Branson, MO which has lots of shows and shopping. Huge place for people to travel to for the weekend. I'd check them out. If I can point you any closer, let me know. I can check with some friends. I hope to go to Branson before we move since it is a popular place to visit here.

My husband was on an assignment in Kansas City when we got married. He couldn't take time off so we "honeymooned" there and stayed at the Sheraton in Country Club Plaza. It is a really nice area with a lot of great restaurants and shopping.

We also visited Herman, MO. It's a really cute little town with lots of wineries and some antique shops. However, I'm not sure how far that is from Springfield and I'm pretty sure they only have B&Bs there so your Sheraton points wouldn't help.

I'm not from Missouri, but I'd highly recommend Branson. Not too far from Springfield, tons of hotels there (must be a Sheraton?), and more things to do and see than you can imagine. It's a perfect girls' weekend, imo. You can shop, take in some shows, tour some interesting museums and maybe even check out some of the amusement parks.

Drive to Kansas City, MO. It's probably about a 3 hour drive from there. not far. I'm from a suburb of KC. You can get a hotel on the Country Club Plaza. Really beautiful area---fun shops, great restaurants and you can walk everywhere. Maybe a few miles down the road is the Nelson Art Gallery which is one of the most beautiful art galleries I've ever been to. The whole area is surrounding by really beautiful homes/mansions. It's a huge area to explore and there is plenty to do for a few days without going anywhere else. I'm sure there must be a Sheraton right there. The architecture of the area is copied from Seville, Spain and there are beautiful fountains everywhere. Quite spectacular. Have fun. Oh, and you have to go to Winstead's and have a hamburger and milk shake. Very famous, old style hamburger joint.
