I recently found out I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I have an appointment to enroll in Medical Assistance through MN next week. My question is for anyone that has any experience with the program and it's OB/GYN's. I'm not sure if I get to select a doctor so I'm hoping you gals can help me with a few suggestions. I'm so nervous due to not being in control of my options. I am a professional who has returned to school about a year and a half ago to change careers and am not use to the uncertainty. Please help.

What can I do next?

When you call to make an appt, make sure to ask if they accept MA (I believe that they do).

In WI we can pick our provider as long as they accept the insurance. Congrats on the baby.

I did get to pick my dr. I went to Allina in Eagan. You should receive a book with all the providers in it. Good luck and congrats!

I was on MA when I was pregnant in 2000. As of then, I got to pick Blue Cross/Blue Shield and you could pick any provider, as long as they were in the book. Most of the Doctors at the hospitals/clinics in MN are in the book.

I'm not sure what area you live in or what area you prefer your OB/GYN to be located. But when I was pregnant last year I was forced to also go on Medical assistance through Mn due to my employer not providing medical insurance. I was able to go to almost any Clinic without restrictions. The M.A I was on was amazing! I had wonderful care throughout my entire pregnancy and the birth of my son! I was in complete control of the situation as far as the doctors I wanted and the hospital I wanted to give birth at. My OB/GYN works out of the Fairview Clinic in Andover and I gave birth at Unity Hospital in Fridley. I had the best treatment I ever had in regards to doctor visits and hospital stays. I hope everything works out for you in regards to you keeping the doctors you want. Congrats on your pregnancy and best wishes!

Congrats on the baby! I recently had a baby and am still on MA. I live in the North metro and went to Oakdale OBGYN - just check the website of an OB you are looking at to see if they accept MA - (most of them do) then though the county (I am in Wright) I was sent a packet of info where I got to pick if I wanted Medica/Blue Cross, etc. I went with Medica since they were a provider and listed in the book. I have been going to Oakdale OBGYN for the last 5 years since I had my son in 2004. They deliver at North Memorial in Robbinsdale and soon to be Maple Grove too.

MA is wonderful to have as you have no copays for anything and no out of pocket expenses. The baby gets to be on MA for the 1st year of their lives too, just make sure to call your case worker as soon as the baby is born and they will send you a form to add the baby.

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions just shoot me a message and i will be more than happy to help you out if I can.

You can go anywhere that accepts MA. You can look through the book of providers they send you, or just pick a clinic/hospital you think you might like and call and ask them if they take MA. For medical purposes, in my experience almost all of the popular, big name clinics take MA and I'm pretty sure every hospital does. The private offices are hit and miss. Still, you wont have any issue finding one! You are definitely more in control and have more options while on MA. Take advantage of it while you can, because MA is the best health coverage you will probably EVER have. Practically everything is covered and you can go almost anywhere you want. You can switch around to different doctors and clinics with no issues, too.
It's harder to find dental clinics that take MA, but still there are PLENTY. Don't worry about a thing!
