Any "Kid Friendly" Radio Stations?

I have always avoided listening to the radio with my kids - it seems that even if the DJ doesn't say anything bad, they'll play songs with lyrics that I don't necessarily want my kids listening too. Even if most of it flies right over their heads, they still starting singing these songs - not even knowing the real meaning of what they are saying. In any event, yesterday, my mother innocently enough took my kids to the Dollar Store, and let my youngest get a Disney Princess radio. I thought it was fake and played Disney songs - but next thing I know, I hear a "real" song coming out of it, and my daughter says it is a real radio. I won't let her listen to it, and she's devastated but understanding. Not being a baby, but obviously crushed. I feel so bad - I'm wondering - IS there a kid friendly radio station out there that anyone knows about?

Unfortunately, it is only on weekends, but on WERS 88.9fm from 5-8pm on saturday and sunday, they have a program called The Playground. They have all sorts of kids music from musicals to Laurie Berkner, etc. The DJs are all Emerson College communications students. Love the station in general, but this program is great. Wish it was every night.

Magic 106.7 markets themselves as the station you can listen to without being embarrassed in front of your children. :)

my favorite kid program is on Saturday from 5-8 and Sunday from 5-8 on WERS, 88.9, the Emerson Station (commercial free is a bonus) and it's called The Playground. They play all requests and there will be many oldies you can enjoy as well. I still listen to it once in awhile even though mine is 17 now!

Hi L.,

Radio Disney AM 1250 is a pretty tame station. Hope you and your daughters enjoy it.

Radio Disney is a nationally broadcast channel and is very kid friendly. You can listen on line to get a taste and see what you think. We often listen to our local country station which plays "family friendly" music during afterschool and evening hours. You do have to be vigilant. As the kids get older, songs with lyrics we dont' like become teaching opportunities too! The other option is to buy CD's. You can also introduce your daughter to classical music, especially at night before bed. It's a good way to wind down and give our kids exposure to multiple kinds of music.
