Hi there - Have any of you ever put chicken wire in your cabinet doors for that French country look?

I have a small secretary that has glass in the upper doors and I would like to remove it an put chicken wire in for a more casual look.... but I can only find 1" chicken wire (we live in farm country so I do think I'd have found it if there were more options!).

Am I wrong is assuming that what I have seen in pictures, etc. is chicken wire? Could it be something else that is in there?? Does Chicken wire come in a smaller than 1" hole?? I need about 1/2 " b/c the doors are small (12 X 24). Thanks Mammas!!

What can I do next?

I thought chicken wire was a " one size, fits all" kind of item. You could achieve the same look with smaller holes by using two layers of chicken wire and overlapping them so the crossed sections of one layer are centered in the holes of the other layer. Hope this makes sense and helps! Good luck!

It is not chicken wire but I will give you it looks like it. Where you would find it I have no idea. It probably started out as real chicken wire but was adapted and the materials changed.

Here that will get you started. They call it hexagonal decorative mesh. :p Oh they have it in half inch too. :)

I don't know if there are smaller holes, but it might not have the correct look if it's too small anyway.

Cute idea, I've seen this done. Usually the cabinet has a distressed finish to go along with the wire.

However, don't do this unless the rest of the room fits the same theme. It will look odd if it's the only piece of furniture that has a country feel.

My plan for my kitchen is to paint it yellow then paint chicken wire red and hang it on the wall.
I have all sorts of chicken/roosters.

I like the idea of using two pieces overlapping to make the smaller holes.
