L.A.
In our area the babysitters charge $8.00 to $10. per child..
For each additional child it is $5.more per child... If you end up staying later be sure to tip really well.
On special holidays.. New Years.. Be sure to tip really well.
Hi All Moms!
Have been wondering, what are the going rates for a teenage (15YO) babysitter watching a 3YO? I know what I was paid when I was a kid but I don't have a clue on what the current rates would be these days. Does the rates change if 3YO is awake/playing vs. asleep/napping (not overnight as I don't think I am ready for that yet)? Is it per hour or just a flat rate? Times have really changed since I was that young!!! LOL
Any suggestions would really be helpful!
Thanks ladies for the great info and experience on the subject. Ended up paying her $5/hour (her Mom thought it was too much) but we are very happy with her care!

You can actually go to a babysitting calculator on-line, like: http://www.babysitting-rates.com/
It will let you enter criteria like the age of the sitter and experience level and then give you a calculation based on that. There is a calculator out there where you can even enter your zip code (but I can't find it right now). Good luck!
i'm also trying to figure this out too. is it by the hour? no ,right? :) or yes?
that would be expensive!
Holy cow, how can anyone afford to go out if they pay $10 an hour per child? My husband is a professional engineer and makes $30 an hour. How can you pay a teenager almost as well as a professional with a Master's degree?
We pay $5 an hour, NEVER per child. And we have babysitters saying, "Call me anytime!"
And I have NEVER heard of tipping!
Hi A.,
We're in the Atlanta area and my girls, 14 and 17, get $10-$12 plus tip. More if they have more than one child. Don't know if that helps not being in your area but the price has gone up a lot everywhere since I babysat!

In NC my 14 year old gets anywhere from $8-$10 an hour. My 12 year old gets $5 an hour. Sometimes the moms give them a $20 for a couple hours.
If the girls are close to the little ones they tend to get more. I have two neighbors who have been competing for my oldest daughter so she has been getting paid very well lately.
I do home daycare and some of the youth get paid more then me. I would do a flat rate according to 4 or less hours and 4 or more hours. For daycare I would charge $20 for more then 4 hours. I am licenced, an adult and educated. I am also CPR and 1st Aide certified. I might need to babysit.
Holy Cow! I think I should moonlight as a teenage babysitter!
A tip? Are you kidding me....... That's crazy.
I'm in MN but the going rate around here is $2 to $3 an hour per child..... It really doesn't matter if she is sleeping or not because the sitter still has to be there. But maybe you should check with some local people and ask what they think the going rate is by you.
