Dear K.,
Have you tried eating yogurt on a regular basis? Sometimes this helps to minimize yeast-type vaginal infections.

I have recurring episodes of bacterial vaginosis, about 2-3 times a year. It is NOT an STD, but an overgrowth of the natural bacteria in the vagina. I've seen my gynecologist several times for this and am always put on antibiotics, which cures it, but it comes back several months later. My gyn dr. told me that it tends to recur in women who get it, but I wanted to know if any other women have this problem and if there are any natural/alternative ways to deal with it? Is there some natural way to prevent it? I don't douche and I'm in a monogomous relationship with my husband.

I initially thought this would be similar to a yeast infection, and was going to suggest eating yogurts to help. A friend of mine with recurrent yeast infections would do that, as well as taking acidophilus supplements. However, I just learned from wikipedia that bacterial vaginosis is different, so strike that advice :) Here's the link from wikipedia - it has some good information and some possible over the counter treatments. Good luck!

Hi, K., I use a product called Florify, which helps restore the natural flora all throughout the body. It is manufactured by Melaleuca, a wellness company that bases all of their products on scientific research. There are a lot of doctors and nurses who participate in Melaleuca, so hopefully as an RN that gives you an idea of their integrity and credibility. Good luck! N. B.
Try probiotics or acidophilus - you can probably get them in a whole foods type store.
Have your Primary Care doctor check your blood sugar. Women with diabetes get frequent vaginal infections. But it may also be possible for you and your husband to spread the infection back and forth during sex. Men can also carry the bacteria. Talk to your GYN,he/she may have to prescribe pills for your husband as well. If so you both should take the treatment at the same time. Then try having sex with condoms to see if you still get one. If you don't get it again after that, you may find the culprit.
