Any Free Things to Do for Kids During the Day in the Spartanburg Area?

I'm looking for things to do with my children 3 & 1 during the day that is free or cost a few bucks. We go to the park about 3 times a week and we go to Milliken to feed the ducks. I'm new to the area and don't know if there is anything else out there for the kids.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello, thanks for the response, yes we went to the movies on tuesday's in the summer at 10am. It was free, they showed the older movies and the kids loved it. Cowpens Library did storytime in the summer, I'm not sure about now. i'll have to call and ask.

Thank you

I'm sure the library still does story time, lap babies and for preschoolers. I second Hatcher Gardens, it really is an oasis. Local AYSO soccer games are free to watch, as are most Non-football games. I always enjoyed the high school band competitions, not totally free, but no more than a few dollars a person. There are a few good parks around, and the new Chapman Cultural Center is open. The first Thursday of every month, the art museum and the science center are free-usually it's around $5 or so. Plus, there is Hollywild Zoo in Inman, and the Greenville Zoo. Music on Main downtown every thursday (though, it might be done for the season) is very kid friendly.

Hey Jenn!
In Downtown Spartanburg on East St John St, there's Barnet Park. In the summer they have a water fountain thing that kids can use to get wet and cooled off! It's free and lots of fun! In the summer there are a lot of free concerts there as well.

In the spring, Downtown Spbg. has free music from many different types of music. I think it's called Music on Main.

There are also walking/biking trails starting in Downtown. We did that with the kiddo and enjoyed it.

I know libraries and Barnes & Noble have story times that you might want to check out.

I know this weekend in Greenville is Fall For Greenville. There will be vendors there from area restaurants and other places. It might be a great way to see what's around! Spartanburg has a lot of these gatherings in Downtown as well, but I can't remember if they have a fall one or not. I know they have Spring Fling.

You could contact someone from a local MOMs chapter and see what they do. They usually set up playdates and whatnot. I can't take part in that because I work 7:30a-6p and most of these things are during the weekdays :(.

I think the main library in downtown Spartanburg offers several storytimes on weekdays. Hatcher Gardens on the west side is another nice spot. It's over now, but next summer look out for cheap movies at Westgate Mall. I think they have several days where you can see kids' movies for free or maybe $2 -- you only pay for refreshments. Hope that helps.

I belong to the Spartanburg Chapter of the International MOMS Club and we try to do lots of free things. We have a cooking club, playdates, book club, Moms Night Out, park days, afterschool activities, etc. Most of us are on a budget so we really try to keep the cost low. You can private message me with your email address if you want a calendar of our activities for October :)
