Hi Moms

It looks like I've developed my first food allergy...as a 36 year old.

I'm in an HMO so am limited to the DuPage Medical Group allergists.

Does anyone have any experiences with any of these doctors:
Jacqueline Moran
Brian Smart
Thomas J. Van Osdol

Any comments (positive or negative) would be much appreciated!

Thank you.

I had to take my daughter to see Dr. Van Osdol when she was only 5 months old due to severe eczema. I was very impressed with his bed side manner and his willingness to answer all my questions and discuss with me different options to determine the best plan of action for her. I have suffered from allergies all my life and now plan on seeing Dr. Van Osdol myself.

Good luck!

My daughter saw Dr. Van Osdol and I really liked him. Don't know how he is with adult patients, but with her he was wonderful.

Hi K.,

I recently took my three year-old son in to Dr. Moran to be tested. I can't say enough about how great the experience was (other than the tests on him, of course). She was personable, related well, and definitely knows her stuff. The nurse that did the testing was kind and knowledgeable as well.

Because my son has food allergies, we'll be back at least once a year for a re-test. I have no doubt that she is offering good guidance and will bring us the latest research as it comes.

Feel free to message me if you have questions. And, good luck!

T.

I just had my first experience with Dr. Brian Smart in August. I brought my 7 year old son there for some allergy testing. He was very nice and very informative.

My son was tested for food allergies and we saw Dr. Moran. She's very nice, took her time, explained everything, and (from only one visit) appeared very knowledgeable and professional. Sounds like you will have a good experience with any of the doctors in this group, given the positive posts. Good luck!

My husband had a severe allergic reaction (ended up in the ICU for almost a week). We saw both Dr. Smart and Dr. Moran in the hospital and followed up with Dr. Moran. They are both great - knowlegable and friendly.

Another option would be to see a chiropractor (believe it or not). Dr. Gelband (on Diehl in Naperville) can probably help you without any shots or prescriptions.

Good luck!

I have seen Dr Smart for my allergies. I'm sort of in the same boat as you, once I turned 30, I began having debilitating sinus allergies.

I really like Dr Smart. He's takes time with you and really listens to what you say before deciding what route to take. I think he's great and I have been happy with all of my DMG doctors

We have seen both Dr Smart and Dr Van Osdol with my 3 year old. Both of them seem really nice. I will warn you that Dr. Smart stutters. THis is not a bad thing but I wish someone had warned me so I was prepared for it and I didn't look suprised or whatever when I heard him speak. I personally like Dr. Van Osdol better. He was much better with my 3 year old than the other one. There were some conflicting reports with my daughters tests and at least he was honest enough to say "I don't know how to explain this to you." I appreciated that. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I hope this helps.

My little boy has been a patient of Dr. Smart for 4 years. We think he does an excellent job; he's great with the kids and explains things well to the parents. He's very good about asking if you have any questions so you don't feel rushed. I'm sure he would be great for an adult patient as well.

We have seen Dr. Van Osdol once in his office during an emergency trip on a Saturday for wheezing and I was also impressed with his staff and how nice he was to my little boy. He's great with kids, but I feel he is good with adults.

We've never seen Dr. Moran so I can't comment on her. I know Dr. Smart has hours at many different locations, including Lombard and Naperville and I assume the others do as well.

My daughter, who is 16 months has seen Dr. Smart for her food allergies. We have only seen him twice, but I have been very pleased with the time he spent with us and his care for her. We will be back to see him nexy July for a year follow-up, and I will continue to use him. Not sure how he is with adult patients, but I would assume just as good.
