My husband bought a huge (holds 700 bottles) wine cabinet a few years ago and filled it with wine. Now he wants to sell it- both the cabinet and the wine. Does anyone have an idea how to go about this? I've gotten as far as taking an inventory of the wine but that's it. Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

Hi J. -
My father had an enormous collection and sold it (it is not illegal, by the way, if you are selling your own collection -- people do it all the time).
I would recommend your husband do some research and find the local buyers -- you will make more money if he finds one or two people interested in the lot or a partial lot. And, it's a lot easier. There are several buyers in the area who are interested especially in rare and vintage wines. I would check the yellow pages (not online) to find the REAL buyers, not the fly by night guys.
He could also go to the better stores and talk to the buyers there -- they will know who is good and currently purchasing. Belltramo's in Menlo Park is one of the best on the Peninsula and they are very knowledgeable. In San Francisco, Ashbury Market has a great buyer who really knows his stuff.
As for the cooler, THAT you should sell on Craigslist or eBay.
Best of luck!

HI,
I don't have any experience in selling it, but when you come up with a price let me know. I might be interested in buying it.

I'm intersted can you tell me more about the wine, how big the cabinet is? Where do you live?
Thanks! P.
Hi J.;
If you want to send me information I will pass it onto a friend that might be interested. ____@____.com

That sounds like a big job. I guess I would try friends/family email first and craigslist for whatever's left. Good luck!

Winecommune.com is a good site for selling the wine. Not sure about the cellar.
There are a number of places you can sell wine on line - ebay being one of them. Vinofolio - http://www.vinfolio.com/?utm_source=sale-20081114&utm... is another place to look. I have some wine to sell as well and was interested in your responses. I have not actually sold anything yet, but Vinofolio is a great spot to find the value of your wine. Check the internet there are lots of spots! I will check back to see what others have said. Good luck!
I'd be interested in the price of your cabinett. Selling the wine is illegal and I wouldn't risk selling it publicly Maybe only through friends would I take the risk. Donating" some or all of it to a charitable cause/event and you may get some of the write off (ask your CPA). There are so many events that would love some wine for an auction.
Looks like you may have some of us Moms interested in the cabinett. Let us know?

Oh my men and their obsessions. Myb husband buys stuff then doesn't use it. They just get a wild hair I guess. He has 2500 CD's. I would think he should try to sell it on ebay.
Hey J. email me as I would be interested in buying ____@____.com
Thanks we would be INTERESTED even in the cellar
Hi J.,
If your husband doesn't have a liquor license it is probably illegal for him to sell wine. The ABC could fine and/or arrest you and your husband. The cost could be far greater then the cost of the wine. Sell the cabinet and enjoy the wine with family and friends.
Blessings.....
Contact winebid.com, they may be able to help.
Good luck!
Craig's list is where I would try.
But I would spend some time getting the VALUE straight. Good luck.
we sold a wine cellar on craigslist in just one day! give it a try!
