Ladies! Hello! I am hoping someone can give me some advice! I have a 2yr old that has what we believe to be having Febrile seizures. She had her 1st one about 1.5 yrs ago, and w/in the past 6 months has had 3. She has had several different tests done: mri, eeg, ct, sono...everything!! The seizures come about when she has a fever over 101'. We have to alternate motrin & tylenol quite regularly b/c if we don't she will go into one!

She goes to a wonderful daycare, but she is CONSTANTLY sick! I have used all but 1 sick day (out of 15), and my husband has used over 12 (since August 25th). I have one more day left until August!! Someday REALLY soon I will have to take off from work w/out pay, but I am still paying over $1,000 a month for daycare regardless if my children are there!!

I have 2 questions for you guys! 1. Does anyone have a child that has febrile seizures? Her seizures don't fit the dr's neat box of a febrile seizure, but they only come on when she has a fever. What are some tips you use to prevent/treat this issue? We have an appt for our regular pedi this week so that he can refer to our neurologist (we get in much quicker w/a referral from him). This is very scary and trying! Has anyone's children grown out of this "stage"???

2. Can anyone think of any jobs in the evenings that I could do to supplement my income so that I can quit my job and stay at home so they don't have to go to daycare anymore! My daycare is awesome, but that's the only place I can think of that she would be getting all of the junk! I don't take her too many places especially in the winter months. She does go to church every Saturday night, but other than that she's usually at home on the weekends w/us. I keep a clean house, I am not a germ-a-phobe, but I do clean all the time, she is dressed properly for weather and outings, she gets her check-ups ontime...am I doing something wrong here?? I know for the first few months children are in daycare they catch a lot of different bugs , but I think this is a little excessive! I have talked to the daycare and made sure they follow their "sick" policies, but who knows if they catch every case!

Sorry so long! At the end of my rope here!! TIA

What can I do next?

My heart goes out to you and your daughter. My friend's son has the same issue when he would get fevers. I will forward this to her to see if she has any advice. He is now 3 1/2 and they have stopped.

I did have the same issue of my daughter at that age constantly getting sick. I work at home as a Virtual Assistant and was able to pull her out of school until her immune system was better and I was not paying for daycare for her to stay at home. She was at an in home daycare with my sister in law and she still was getting sick all of the time.

I do have a suggestion for the second question. I have not heard of any options for supplementing income besides selling products until I heard of being an Virtual Assistant. It is pretty much a secretary from home. I work for small businesses. I would suggest researching this possibility. Companies save thousands of dollars by allowing you to be a contract employee from home. They do not have to pay for supplies or taxes. It is starting your own business but in this economy I think employers would like to allow you to work at home and save some money. Just a thought - I wish you the best of luck!

I'm so sorry for this trying time in your little ones life. I can't imagine. I really beleive that kids catch so much in childcare settings. That would be wonderful if you could stay home with your little one. I am not sure about evening jobs, but an idea is maybe watching kids yourself. Also, calculate all fo the money that you would save if you stayed home:
$1000 per month on child care; gas spent commuting; Dr. co payments whenever she is sick; money spent eating out on your lunch break; work clothing; etc. I bet you will find this to be a lot more than you might think. Also, cutting back in unecessary areas and maybe searching on-line for coupons for necessary purchases to save a little money. You will soon see how much it is really worth it to be able to provide your daughter with the best child care possible - her own mommy : )

I hope this helped a little.

Hello C S, my strong suggestion will be to keep your children home and stay home with them. That way you know that they are properly taken care of, you get the bonus of seeing them grow. 1000 dollars a month can go a long way. just budget more, eat out less, do fun things where you do not have to pay. it is possible and you would be glad you did. it seems hard but it is possible. when they are school age, you can go back to work.

C S,
I am so sorry you are having these problems. I have not dealt with these issues but, my daughter was so sick the first year she went into child care. By all means, keep your babies at home with you.
I'm not sure if this would be right for you but, I supplement my income by selling Arbonne. Please, let me know if you are interested. I really enjoy the business.

I don't know if this is the reason my 5 year old has not been sick or not but I started giving her DanActive every day when she started daycare. It claims to boost the immune system and I figured I had nothing to lose. She likes it and she has not been sick. Try it, it can't hurt and just might help.

I have an 8 month old who has had three ear infections since 4 months old. However, I have not had to deal with febrile seizures. Unfortunately, mine has been congested pretty much since she was three weeks old (prior to going into daycare). However, with my first she did not start getting sick until daycare. Anyway, I don't have any fantastic ideas. However, retail or starting your own business. There are a ton of businesses, like Mary Kay, that favor your situation. However, it takes a bit to build the business. However, you may not have to put them in daycare at first until your business builds up. You could try and set evening appointments when your husband returns from work to watch you kiddos. Anyway, good luck!!

You would only have to supplement your income with the difference between childcare and your income. Have you considered watching some other children in your home?
