My husband has one really annoying habit- biting his nails. It just makes me nuts and I can't seem to find a way to break him of it. I have tried that awful stuff you paint on the nails. He bit right through it! Any other suggestions? Thanks.

What can I do next?

Unfortunately I don't have any advice for you since my husband is also a nail biter and it drives me nuts as well!!! Our 3-yr old daughter has recently developed the habit and bites her nails down as far as she can and when I asked the doctors office for any advice they said try to distract her whenever she's attempting to bite her nails which isn't really working well ... and they also said she probably picked up the habit from watching someone else do it which I'm pretty sure was her daddy. If your child(ren) haven't picked up the habit yet maybe share with your husband the fact that he could pass it on ... although that didn't work well with my hubby.

hmm... when you find a good remedy let me know!!! I've threatened to not cook dinner for him, saying he's already eaten, it makes him stop- for the second I'm standing there. At least your husband's willing to try things like paint. Give him credit for that.

At least he's not picking his nose, burping or farting in public. Lol. :)

(No my DH doesn't do that.)

Seriously, my husband has some habits I'm not too fond of - as I'm sure I have that he's not big on. He leaves his dirty socks on the couch ALL the time. I hate it! But most of the time, I just let it go. I tease him about it once in awhile and I threaten to put them on his pillow.

Have you just asked him to please stop because it really gets to you? My husband used to pull out his nose hair (and it's not like he's a hairy beast or anything) and it LOOKED like he was picking his nose. I HATED IT! So, one day I just told him that it REALLY bothered me and he stopped. I said, "Honey, you know I don't complain much but it makes me gag when I see you doing that. Could you please TRY to just use the trimmer for that?" I rarely see him doing it now.

And, if it works better maybe ask him if there is one habit that he would like you to quit doing and you can both do it together. At least then you are pointing out that you both have faults and not just picking on him.

Good luck.

Tell him if he does, then no sex.

That should work

Nailbiting is how he has learned to deal with stress. I bit my nails as a child & stopped when I became selfconscious of how my hands looked.
When & if he becomes motivated & ready to stop he might consider consulting with a certified hypnotist. Hypnosis involves learning stress management tools to allow the release of unwanted habits.

Tell him to rub garlic on them....when he is home of course and to leave it on as long as possible. It worked for me when I was a teen. Hopefully he will try it!
