I would take it at night at 1st. i was perscribed the generic brand of Busbar years ago and the 1st time I took it was the last. It knocked me out! I at the time had a 2 and 3 and a half year old running around and I took one and I literally could not stay awake at all. i was a single mom at the time and they did well while i was knocked out, but i never wanted to be in that position again.

I'm on Busiprone and Hydroxyzine and they really help me with anxiety.

It does take a about month or so for all the medicine to kick in. If medicine makes you sleepy, take it at night and that will help you sleep better. My Dr told me this, even though it says take in the morning, you can take it at night, if it makes you sleepy.

Be patient, it does take awhile for the medicine to take effect.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Anxiety is a horrible thing to live with. I went through some severe anxiety after my dad died.

It does not have to be something that you live with for the rest of your life. You can either work through it on your own, or get some help with it. The help can come in the form of a close friend, therapist, hypnotist.

I am a hypnotist, and would be more than happy to help you. Just send me a private message and we can chat.

I think that is the best option because your subconscious mind will receive the instruction that you want to live a happy, anxiety free life. (The anxiety is coming from the subconscious.) No matter what hypnotist you choose (if you decide to go that route), expect 4-6 sessions; and you have to do things to work on your anxiety while you are not in hypnosis - like realize why you started getting anxious in the first place. (Any hypnotist that does not recommend this is just taking your money.)

I love to talk about this kind of thing. Seriously, send me a message! :)

Remember - you DON'T have to live with this!

Hello, Y.
I am sorry your going thru this, plus, I do not know your exact situation personally, but your not alone. I too had anxiety/depression issues and depending on your medical history, it could be temporary. It was for me, I too had a very stressful job, small kids, and a husband to balance. Some of things I did, was tried the anxiety medication, but the thing with that is you must follow your doctors orders so things will "kick-in" with the medicine. Very important. However, I really did not think I needed medication so I stopped using it. After much thought and discussion with husband, I decided "step-down" at work, get away from the stressful job. That did the trick for me. I was very lucky to do this, and it worked out for myself and family. However, the stress of the family balance still exist, but its at a totally different level. Also, I have alittle more time for myself now. Although, I cannot advise you about GERD as I have not had it, the stress could be causing it. I would say, try to take some time alone to think about what is going on in your life, talk to someone, and don't be afraid to ask for help. Get a family member or husband to give you a hand with house work or kids if you have to work late or need time alone. Hang in there! Take care!

Hi!

No, you absolutely don't have to live with it! I would highly recommend having your neurotransmitters (the chemical messengers of the brain) checked. One excellent doctor to do this is Dr. Constantine Kotsanis in Grapevine, TX. His website is http://www.wellnessandaesthetics.com. If that's not convenient for you, please don't hesitate to contact me and I can give you some other health care providers. You CAN be the same again but pharmaceuticals may not be the answer for that! I hope this helps!

You've gotten lots of good advice. Exercise, see a therapist, try to get rid of some stressful things in your life, learn breathing techniques to calm yourself. Also check into cranio-sacral massage therapy. I see Ken Piercy. (www.kenpiercy.com) I can't explain why, but I went in feeling completely overwhelmed by my life, and came out feeling like I could manage. I go about once a month right now, but have not gotten to that panicky place again. Don't stop taking the medicine if that's what your doctor prescribed and you feel it is helping, but don't be afraid to look for other ways to manage the overload of stress in your life. You can't take care of your family if you are falling apart. Even if you can't justify taking time to restore and refresh yourself for your own sake right now, do it for your family. Everyone wins when you feel better.

Good luck,

Please have your thyroid checked! So many of my anxiety and stresses were due to my hyperactive thyroid! I am on the correct medication now-it does not make me sleepy at all!
As for the "emergency pill" -I have some of those magic pills-just in case -like for long plane trips! Take one before you get in that situation-do not overwork your heart because you were too anxious! Self hypnosis is great too! You can talk yourself into calmness-even in a crowded place!Good luck-have a good communication between you and your doctor-that helps a lot!

Good morning, Y.,
There is a wonderful homeopathic remedy for anxiety attacks which works every time and is completely safe to take - no dangerous side effects. It is called Rescue Remedy and is available at Whole Foods and Central Market. Sprouts stores may also have it. This helped my youngest daughter tremendously when she was battling anxiety attacks and I highly recommend it.
Good luck and hang in there! It will get better.

I experienced these exact same things in September. I had to take a little time off of work for myself. I felt so overwhelmed and was constantly experiencing the pain from GERDS. My doctor put me on Celexa for the anxiety/depression and he also gave me a precription for GERD. I did not refill the medicine because I've found that Zantac 180 I think it is helps just as well. It's the strongest Zantac sold. It did take a couple of weeks for the Celexa to take effect but now, I feel great and in time you will too. Take time to do things you like and pamper yourself, you deserve it!

Let me suggest an hour or two or three each week for yourself - find a place you like and practice yoga. In a college town like Denton - there should be a place you can go to establish a consistent yoga practice - the hour of focus is like a body & mind escape - I have a studio in Wylie (too far for you) and the Mom's that come in say they so look forward to time for themselves and for one hour at a time it's all about them. They say it calms, renews and refreshes them so they can better give from their refilled cup.

I have suffered from two bouts of anxiety/panic attacks. Its a terrible, terrible mind game. The first lasting about 6 mos. The second, not that long. I took meds the first bout. The second,I worked out on my own. I can usually talk myself down from an attack now. I've not heard of a pill for emergencies? But,the other pills will work and regulate your bodies chemistry. Just give them time. Good Luck.

My husband has had severe anxiety and panic attacks for several years. He takes Lexapro and has Xanax for emergencies. When he is having a flair up of anxiety he needs the xanax 1 to 3 times a day for several days. He has not become addicted to it. The lexapro takes about 6 weeks before you feel the full benefit. There are vitamins and supplements that have helped. He takes all of the B vitamins and fish oil to name a few. As for the GERD, I have that and I take protonics and it takes care of it. It does take 1 to 2 weeks to fix the problem as it takes time for it to shut down the acid pumps in your stomach. Feel free to email me if you want any more information.

I know where you are coming from and let me assure you that you are NOT alone. Anxiety in women is a common issue. Look at all that we deal with on a daily basis and we want to do it all perfectly! It's too much sometimes. I am so glad to hear you are taking medicine to help figure this out. Have you looked into or are you already talking to a counselor or other professional to help you sort out the possible source of your anxiety? I went through a horrible time with anxiety in April and determined that I was not really connecting with my husband. I wasn't even really aware that was the issue. You will get through this rough patch though. It will not last forever. I really struggled for a month or so, and slowly things worked themselves out after the medication started working, I kept going to see my psychologist and I also connected with a woman at my church who came over weekly to pray with me. I'll be praying for you. Take care. This too shall pass.

I have been diagnosed with the same thing recently :( I'm not on anything for anxiety, but now that classes are over for the semester I'll be able to relax. I have been on Nexium for the past week and a half for acid reflux, it doesn't take the symptoms away completely but it has lessened down a lot.

The things I do for anxiety is just exercise, I feel a lot better when I do cardio or a fun class at the gym. I don't think it's going to go away anytime soon, but I do feel better doing mental exercises like when I'm upset I'll tell myself to relax or it's not a big thing. I try to think happy and positive and not worry so much :( It's hard sometimes but with time it will get better.

I'm curious to know what you were prescribed. If Zanax is what you refer to as the "emergency fix" then I would not take it. It's a VERY addictive medication and extremely hard to get off and can literally make you crazy if you "don't" have it for a day. I know this from personal family experiences and it's been no joke. I recommend you trying another medication if that is the one. I suffer from MAJOR anxiety but have been in denial for years. If I had insurance, I'd probably get myself treated but for now I just live with it. It prevents me from doing a lot of things I want to do in life. I think there are things that can be done besides taking medication. Maybe see a counselor instead of a doctor for now who will only get you hooked on meds and get yourself some professional advice. Good luck to you and hope you feel better soon.

Most people go through at least one time during their life that they have anxiety/depression symptoms. Chances are, if you did not have these symptoms before this time in your life, you will not have to live with it 'forever'. It can be genetic, but you would most likely be able to identify it in your life from the past on a somewhat regular basis. As cheesy as it sounds, work on your breathing; maybe look up techniques online. It's amazing what a little extra oxygen can do for your body.
I noticed in you profile you wrote that the hardest thing about life is: "doing everything for everybody." Say "no" to people for awhile...see if you start to feel better. Of course, you have to be careful not to isolate yourself from functions and friends. Maybe this is a time in your life where you can be the guest and be waited on. Don't feel bad about being intentional to free up your workload! Take Care!!

I have gone through the same thing recently. It is awful, and I can completely relate. Be careful if you are taking benzodiazepines (xanax) as your temporary fix. They are highly addictive and you can go through withdrawals making the anxiety worse. I would try to give your medicine the time it needs and if it gets really bad, see a psychiatrist. They know the most about the medicine and are typically covered by insurance. Make sure you are very knowledgeable about any medications that you are taking. Know the side effects and possible withdrawal symptoms. My anxiety this summer was very severe, but now I am feeling much better. It does get better. I hope that you are able to find the help you need. :)

You are not alone. I am going through the very same thing. Contact me if you would like to talk. I understand and have found that talking through it with someone who understands helps me. Medication helps me not over react in situations and has cut down on me lossing my temper with the kids for no good reason. I got to a point where I felt like my life was completely running me since I work full time and also have a wonderful husband and two small children (5 & 7) but do most of the work at home as well. My primary doctor gave me the Zoloft but basically told me to take that and call her in 18 years as a joke. She basically was saying that nothing was wrong with me but I needed to figure out how to deal with everything I have on my plate. For me it was a vicious cycle since I can't rationally get a handle on my life when anxious, but the anxiety won't go away until I do. The medicine has helped me calm down enough to start working on the things I need to in order to lessen the anxiety. I am also seeing a phycologist to help me figure out where and how I can start to change. I am not unhappy at all, just overwhelmed. I have found great help with my councilor and would highly recommend her. I am learning to let go of the need to take care of everything and actually allow my husband and kids to help. Contact me if you would like to talk. It is not a permanent thing but until you do something to change it, it could be. Good luck.
