I am looking for a good antioxidant supplement that is safe while breastfeeding. Does anyone take anything they really like that they know for a fact is safe while nursing?
I am really looking for something to help with my eczema. No lotions have helped (including Renew lotion), i've tried the coconut oil, probiotics, allergist, etc. I'm ready to try a good antioxidant.

What can I do next?

Supplements are not FDA approved, therefore, they do not have to go through the same testing as prescription and OTC medications. If you do take a supplement, be sure it is pharmaceutical grade. (I am a pharmacist).

Honestly, your prenatal vitamin (I assume you're still taking it) should provide you with anything you need while nursing. It you have particular concerns, I would check with your OB and get their recommendations. Your best bet is to eat a good diet and get what you need from fruits and veggies.

UPDATE:
Although I respect that the other poster has different information for you, I stand by my response. Supplements are not approved by the FDA. There are always new studies which disagree with previous studies. For example, it was believed at one time that Vitamin E supplementation was beneficial; more recent studies showed an increase risk of death.

From Oxyguard's website:

"FDA disclaimer These statements have not been evaluated by the food and drug administration. These products are not meant to diagnose, treat or cure any disease or medical condition. Please consult your doctor before starting ANY exercise or nutritional supplement program or before using these or any product during pregnancy or if you have a serious medical condition."

I would try the triple omega pills. I think it would help. But just like anything check with the doctor to make sure this is okay. I have eczema too but mostly on my hands. I would try aquaphor also. I love that stuff and it is good for dry skin. Good luck

I have been taking a fantastic antioxidant supplement for 17 years now - which includes through 3 great pregnancies, the nursing and emotional ups and downs thereafter too. It has been a huge help in controlling my eczema. I can still see occasional flairs under the right conditions of what I do with my hands, but they are very mild. My three kids all inherited by brother's asthma (supposedly related to eczema), but we control their asthma symptoms completely through the use of this supplement as well. I would never go off these products. You can email me at ____@____.com to discuss if you wish.

Since you are breastfeeding, I wouldn't try any new vitamins. The best thing is to eat fruits high in antioxidants. Berries are really good at this and now there are plenty. Try to get them organic.

Dear B.:

The pharmacist's response has some accuracy to it. I have owned a pharmacy for 67 years and still own it. Pharmaceutical grade is a priority. What was not mentioned is that most high grade vitamins are made in a FDA monitored laboratory. So you can be sure they are following cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice); rated superior to the standard GMP standards.

There are many pediatricians that recommend a antioxidant called Oxyguard. It has ingredients to support many functions of the body that other antioxidants do not have. The dosage my wife took during breastfeeding was 1 capsule twice a day with meals. She claims it gave her more energy.

You can research it at http://www.ndinutraceuticals.com/product40.html or other websites on the web.

How old is your baby?
I've nursed both my children for very extended time periods (in terms of years vs. months) and I've been very comfortable taking L'Bri Pure n' Natural's NutriAloe. It is JAM-PACKED with a ton of antioxidents that help everything from your skin, to digestion to your energy levels & everything in between. I swear by it!
It was recently re-formulated too, so it tastes way better than it did before. It's very sweet & you only need 1 ounce/day!
You can see more information on it here: http://www.A..lbri.com/nutrition.aspx & here: http://nutrialoe.com/
If you have any questions about it, please feel free to ask me. You may be able to order a sample of it through the website (to taste it, basically.--The sample bottles are only a day's supply) or I could probably mail you one if you wanted.
Hope you find something that works! How aggrevating!
