I am a fan of the "experience". Spend an afternoon with her, lunch, a movie, have pedicures, go to the bookstore together and get her something along with a latte. Make memories with her.
Since someone else started it, I'm going to jump on the gift idea bandwagon: I have no idea what to get my mid-teen age niece. When she was younger, she loved craft stuff so I went with that. Last year I knew she was going to Disney, so got her a Disney GC. I could go with an amazon gift card (she likes to read and has a Kindle), but I feel like a GC is so impersonal. Any ideas? Even something small that I could get with a GC?

I second the PJ's, fuzzy socks, cozy blanket idea. My daughter is 16 and she (and her friends) love that kind of stuff.
My daughter is 14, and she and all her friends love PJs. Sounds silly, but they do. This year they are all giving each other onesie PJs (that's what they call them... the kind that are all one-piece like footie PJs, only these don't have feet, they have cat ears on a hood, or unicorn horns, etc).
They love goofy stuff like that. And fuzzy socks.
That may be extreme and maybe more personal than you want to go, though. Does she enjoy any particular hobbies that you know of now? sewing, art, writing, reading, music?
My teens all loved gift cards - don't stress about it being impersonal. That being said, their FAVORITE was a gift card wrapped with a pair of cute socks. Good luck!
geez!

CASH!!! I typically give it in the form of a gift card. You know the $50 or so Visa gift cards that are accepted everywhere. I usually wrap the card in a small box with fuzzy socks.
For my 12 yr old niece, I sent her the new Fuji polaroid camera. My daughter (20) and her friends have these cameras. They are so cute, come in different colors and the picture is about a 2x3 or something like that. My niece has everything and she looks up to my daughter so I FINALLY figured out something she would love that she doesn't have!! I got hers at Michaels with a 40% off coupon. They do run about $120 and the film is about $16 a pack of 2 rolls. The also have photo albums for the prints and cases to match the camera.
Happy shopping.
Hi.. I gifted my 14 year nephew Pocket projector, Live streaming Netflix on your phone is great while you are alone, but when friends come over for movie night, teens want a bigger screen. The Brookstone Pocket Projector Micro does the trick. So does the Magnasonic LED Pocket Pico Video Projector, which bills itself as the world's smallest portable DLP projector. This one projects videos and photos up to 60 inches in size. All you need is the blank wall.
