A.M.
How about Big Bear? I love it up there in the summer! There's a lot to do up there, it's also a great place to just get away and relax. Have a great time with whatever you decide to do!
This weekend is our anniversary. Weeks ago my husband wanted to plan a weekend getaway for us, but since I haven't been feeling well I told him I wouldn't be up to it. Miscellaneous medical issues I will spare you from. Today, seeing how it's just aroiund the corner and I am feeling a bit better, I think it'd be a shame to let this anniversary go having ZERO plans. And I know he really did want to spend at least one night out. I sitll don't want to go far. We wuld be bringing our toddler with us (yeah, I know....but oh well). We live in L.A. What places are within a 2 hour drive that we could go to? (I'm trying to avoid the more obviious ones beause we have already done them i.e. Santa Barbara, San Diego, Ventura). Maybe ther is some hidden gem nearby? We are open to all kinds of things and we are not picky, as long as we are getting to know a new place. Can someone give me ideas?

Have you thought about hitting up Wrightwood? It's about a 2 hour or less venture up the 15. There are quite a few places to eat as well as little shops to peruse as well.
My son says the Chateau Marmont is quite nice
Cambria, it has a beautiful Moon Beach - it is all pebbles vs sand! My grandparents used to have a cabin up there - OHHH so beautiful.
Solvang is fun too ... been a while since I have been, but I remember it being fun
Try getting in the car and just driving till you want to stop and end up somewhere, the plan is not to make plans!
But then I think you have the toddler...uuuummm. oh well you can do it!
What was your husband's plan "weeks ago"? He might have the best idea....It would be nice to have a sitter, so perhaps a destination that has licensed child care, if you don't have no family or friends that could take care of your toddler for a couple of days. Sounds like your husband would appreciate a "getaway" with his wife.
Queen Mary in Long Beach.
Or just drive south on PCH and find a nice spot and spend a night or two.
I realize it is not quite getting away, but with the toddler...
How about a picnic? My husband I used to even picnic in the backyard when our daughter was young and we felt it would better not to take her out.
Blanket basket, the whole 9 yards... we would just pretend the house was not there. But if our daughter needed to be changed or nap etc. it was easily done. AND there were no tired child in an unfamiliar place expisodes either.
The hardest part was the pretending we were not home... so no computer phone calls etc. It worked fo rus and wound up being a regular occurance...
What ever you decide to do, have fun and Happy Anniversary!!
OMG Palm Spring is TOO hot for me and a toddler!
I took my husband to the Balboa Bay Club for the night for his birthday in Newport Beach. The room service was AMAZING and the food was even better. We brought our 6 month old (at the time) with us, since I was/am still breastfeeding. He passed out right after we got there and we have a wonderful time. Nice bay view. Very relaxed. It was high class, but not stuffy like the Ritz or the St. Regis.
You can go to Balboa Island for the fun zone, if you are into that....but all in all, Newport has great ideas. We go up there a few times a year and rent a Duffy (an electric boat for 2 hours) and bring lunch. We have a blast and the kids LOVE it.
I'm no help. The husband and I completely forgot about our till 2 days after the date.
Palm Springs has a ton of family friendly resorts. Or get a hotel room in Long Beach -- you could hit the Aquarium and walk to any number of restaurants for a nice dinner.
We took our kids to San Clemente a couple months back -- tons of hotels/motels literally across the tracks from the beach (Amtrack stops right at the pier if you don't want to drive!) Lots of restaurants to choose from.
Wrightwood is nice, but not much fun for toddlers.
Have fun, and Happy Anniversary!
You are probably already on your weekend getaway but I have a suggestion for next time you want to get away with hubby. How about Temecula and do the wine country thing. There are a lot of wineries and very cute B&B's (make sure you go to one with a pool during summer). Have fun!
