Anniversary Gift Ideas (WOOD???)

We usually get tickets to something fun, like a concert, show, sporting event or comedy club, something different than the usual dinner & drinks (though we usually do that too!)
We've also done daytime dates, like hiking with the dog, just the two of us, followed by a nice picnic, including wine, at sunset.

For our 5th, we had a picnic just the two of us in our favorite hiking area. We were surrounded by trees (wood), and it was wonderful just to enjoy the time away.

I can tell you what hubby and i did as our anniversary tradition and have never regretted it. We departed from the whole gift giving tradition and decided we would spend our money on making memories instead. Often a lovely weekend somewhere nice in an upgraded hotel room or suite. More often than not we have taken our kids along (out of necessity, his parents too old for overnights, mine too far away). I'm glad we departed with tradition and made our own tradition. We live in a nice area so we skip expensive airfare, stay local/ semi- local and splurge on the accommodations.

Ohh, and I still got "wood" on our fifth anniversary. At the end of the month we celebrate our 10 year, but we stall talk about the love making on our 5 year celebration because there is something about getting out of the house and staying in a nice hotel. Trust me. Get away, even if its just one night and local.

I was also going to suggest a picnic to be surrounded by "wood" in the form of trees! For our 5th we planned a family trip to Florida, so palm trees were our gift to each other! :)

My husband and I do the traditional gifts as well, although, our 10th is next and I'm considering pushing for the modern gift of diamonds on that one! Haha! We've found doing the traditional thing makes it fun (and sometimes funny) and takes the pressure off to do some big thing. We also try to be practical.

A statue. Some wood is really really pretty when carved and polished and can be worn as jewelry. A piece of solid wood furniture. Real wood furniture can cost a good bit. Want hard wood flooring in the house? :) A real wood jewelry box or hope chest?

Cutlery...some really nice kitchen knives are always useful and can be pretty.

EDIT: We're on year 8...Bronze, linen, lace and SALT...SALT?!

My hubby is a gun nut, so I got him fancy rosewood grips for one of his guns. Not something that I would want at all, but I tried to focus on something that HE would really like, and I scored big time :) He got me a lovely decorative, hand-carved wooden bowl that I am sure he thought was boring, but I adored. So when you are thinking romantic, think of something he would really like first, then figure out a way to work in the wood theme.

Hand carved wood sculpture, trinket box, wine holder, cutting board. Something handmade from wood - I just did a show with a carver who makes the most gorgeous pieces of art from burled wood. Check etsy for some unique things. If I had the money, I'd get my husband a wooden kayak.

I bought my husband a pen made by a local artisan out of wood. He gave me a Longaberger basket made from hard-rock maple.

Do you need anything fun for the house but haven't splurged on it? For instance, my husband and I decided at Christmas to jointly buy a really nice framed scenic photo from a photographer, instead of buying gifts for each other.

I wouldn't feel trapped by the traditional gift ideas. We've never followed what was traditional as far as our anniversary gifts.

A wood birdfeeder?
A wood picnic table for the back yard?
A wooden flower pot, such as one make from a wine barrel or keg.

I always give hubby scotch or whiskey and chocolate.

We also go away for a night. No kids, nice dinner, getting to sleep in :-)

Hubby got me a monogrammed wood picture frame for our 5th a couple years ago. It's one of those cubes with a spot for pictures on each side and our name and anniversary carved on the top.

Happy Anniversary. No reason a night in can't be fun. Enjoy. Light some candles (those are for you), make steak, mashed potatoes ( or your favorite foods), have some appetizers, write down 5 reasons you're glad you found & married to him & gv to him in a card.

Gifts:
-a fun pic of you pre-marriage framed in a wood frame
-buy an inexpensive wood plaque in the craft area of your local Target or
Walmart & write a positive note in gold paint to display in your home as a reminder like (Day we married, best day. or a saying you both always
use.).
-buy some wood handled steak knives
-wood wine cork
-a tool he may need that is used on wood.
-buy a small wood box for you to keep/use & put a small gift in there for
him (keychain, Home Depot Certif, flashlight etc.).
-Modern gift is silverware. Need any new forks, spoons? (silver frame?)
-new watch? On back inscribe "would you be mine?". Play on words.
-buy a wood tray. Serve your appeizers on it & save it for yourself for later. Display it on a bookshelf.

Edit: buy one of those wood word signs that says "Love" or something. You can find them online or Ross, Homegoods, Target etc.
