Has anyone experianced hyper activity and defiance from a normally even tempered child while on Amoxicillin?? My daughter is ill with an ear infection and was perscribed the antibiotic over the weekend & since then i cant decipher if she is acting out just because she's 4 and sick or if it could be in part from the antibiotic. If anyone has had a similar experiance please share! Thank you so much!

Every time our daughter becomes sick (with or without antibiotics), she practically morphs into a different child! It can be shocking at times, she's normally very mild-mannered and polite. At about 4 years old kids really assert their independence and begin to push limits like never before. I'd bet money she'll be back to normal once she feels like herself again.

My daughter had an ear infection (my first experience) and a slight case of strep a couple of weeks ago. While she was sick, she pretty much slept most of the time and lay quietly. When she felt better, it was almost as though she had to make up for lost time. She will be 3 this week and is going through one heck of a toddler phase! Her siblings are several years older so she tries to be like them. I didn't attribute her behavior to the medication though I guess that is always possible. My older kids never had a reaction to it--though they never had ear infections so maybe it has to do with the imbalance with that..

As a matter of fact, I just went thru this a couple of weeks ago. I did some research online and did find some information on aggression while taking this. Like you, I'm not sure if it was from being sick or the medicine. I have noticed that he reacts more to some antibiotics than others.

Forget going to doctors that is a very, very, heavy anti-biotic.
Get yourself a homeopath and take your family to her/him. I only once used anti-biotic for an ear infection and was I every sorry my child was so off balance she had really bad accident at her cousins house.
We use homeopathic medicine which even cured me of asthma. You just need a very experience and good homeopathic doctor for most illnesses.

Amoxicillin makes my kids REALLY crabby - hard to handle for sure! Hang in there, it will be over soon.

Hi, my son is four and he just stopped taking Amoxicillin, but when he was on this I thought I was going to go crazy! He really did show a lot more aggression and hyper activity. It was so bad I had to call the doctor to make sure everything was ok, she told me that is sometimes normal to experience in taking these meds. but I know exactly what you feel like, I thought my normally very quiet son was going crazy.

My daughter gets that way with exposure to red dye, which is probably in your Amoxicillin if it is the great-tasting pink liquid. Another friend of ours had the same experience (behavior changes with red dye) - then a couple of years later her daughter had anaphylaxis with exposure to food dye.

Hope this is not the case for your daughter, but you might want to see if this is a pattern - red dye is in SO MANY things.

Good luck,

D.
