How long can you store Amoxicillan in your fridge until it is not longer able to be used?!? They gave me an extra bottle back in the middle of Sept that I never threw away... still in my fridge... my daughter is starting to get really sick again (cough, fever, mild temp),,.. do you suggest I take her back to the doc for a new RX or would you say it is safe to still use it? Either way is fine, just thought I could save a trip up to the doctors office! Hope you all have a VERY Merry Christmas!!!!

She may not need that type of medication. She may need no medication, at all. It's really a bad idea to dispense medication, without a Dr. telling you to. I would see if you can get into the Dr. I don't know if the medication is still good, but I wouldn't give it to my child anyway.
The pharmacy will write when it expires on the bottle, which is usually a few weeks after it's been mixed, so I doubt it's still good. I would not start your daughter on antibiotics without seeing a doctor first, it could just be a viral illness and you would be giving her a medication that she does not need.
You should not use Amoxicillan unless it is really really needed! This over use is why things are now more and more resistant to it. If you use it every time she gets a cold, it will not work when she really does need it. You don't even need it for ear infections, 95% of them will clear on their own with the help of a decongestant to help the tubes in the ears drain. Throw it out and let the sickness run its course. If the fever gets high, just use a fever reducer, no need for antibiotics.
It typically doesnt expire for one year. But as the others have said just because she is getting sick doesnt mean that she needs antibiotics.
There have been many times that I swear my daughter had an ear infection by the way she was acting and half the time I was wrong.
My son had so many ear infections before he was 18 months and had tubes in his ears that amoxicilin no longer is strong enough for him. But I have to disagree with some moms that say to let ear infections fix themselves. My son has some hearing loss and had his drums burst twice because of it. I know thats off topic but better to be safe than sorry.
First of all, amoxicillin is an antibiotic. Doctors prescribe it for bacterial infections. You need not give your daughter amoxicillin for fever or cough unless she has some infections like strep, ear infection etc and the doctor prescribes it for her. And you wont know if she has an infection or not unless she sees the doctor. Why don't you give her some over the counter tylenol/ibuprofen/motrin for fever? If you think it's more than just fever, take her to the doc.
Secondly, If you check the bottle you should see the expiration date. You must use amoxicillin within 14 days after the prescription is filled because the pharmacists mix it with water , so it's good only 14 days after mixing.
Amoxicillian is typically good for @ 14 days after it's mixed. I would toss and see the doctor.
I know you already said you wouldn't but don't use leftover medicine without a dr's guidance! I did that in college and it got me way sicker. Part of the thing is you need a certain # of days of the medicine so if you're short a day or two, I think taking the medicine can almost backfire.
14 to 21 days mattering on the brand. I would toss it.
liquid antibiotics start to degenerate as soon as the liquid is added. Throw it out and get a fresh one or else you will just make the bacteria become more resistant to antibiotic treatment. Be safe! Hope she feels better and it could just be a cold. go to doc to find out.
