If your amnio said "fine", then there is no more sure test than that. Sometimes amnios show a problem, and the baby is healthy. If it's negative for down syndrome, then the baby doesn't have down syndrome. Is there the microscopic chance something could possibly go wrong? Yes, for every single pregnancy something could go wrong. Try not to worry, realize that most likely all is well.

I had the Amniocentesis with both my pregnancies.
It is the most accurate testing.

Worrying is what a Mom does.
its okay.

But your testing was negative.
So you should know, that genetically, your baby is fine.
That does not rule out... normal developmental delays or personalities or how a baby is then, formed... via his/her environment or parenting or per their disposition or temperament or personality.
If a child has a 'delay', then that is developmental based. Not genetic based.

The Amnio, checks for certain genetic malformations. Not ALL the aspects of a child, developmentally. Just for genetic problems.

Both my kids were born fine, normal, healthy and my tests were negative.
But they have their own personalities. And my son had a speech delay. That has nothing to do with the Amniocentesis test. That is not what the Amnio is for.

An amnio is a very certain method of ruling out most major genetic conditions, like Downs Syndrome. But it can't test for everything no can it test for problems such as some emotional/behavioral/attention issues. I had a CVS which is like an amnio because of a high DS risk, and had a correct negative finding. If you don't understand the tests and your findings, you really should call your nurse or doctor (or find a new one). When you become a Mom you have to be really strong about asking quesitons and getting explanations 3 times if you need it so you understand your health and your child's health. Try to relax, it sounds like you got good news!

There simply are no guarantee's...you just have to have faith or be optimistic...whatever works for you. I have 3 amazing children, I don't have a problem saying one is gifted, one is what people would say is typical, and one is a challenge due to some delays or special needs. It is life, you cope, sometimes you mourn but you move on, life doesn't stop if something is not what your idea of perfect is. Anyone who is afraid of what life may hand them is not giving themselves enough credit.
Also if you have a legitimate reason for being worried that is one thing, but don't as my Grandma used to say "borrow trouble" Worry never helped anything.
Look up Welcome to Holland...it is a great read and can show you different can be amazing. Sometimes we don't always get what we think we want. My youngest son is on the Autism Spectrum, I so love him for the person he is and I cannot imagine him any other way. Not everyone feels that way, I am very fortunate in part because Alex is what is known as high functioning.
Enjoy your pregnancy.

You never know for sure. The doctors may think they know, but they down really know. My suggestion for you is to just wait, and see how the baby turns out. You should love your baby either way, and I'm sure that it will a sweet child.
