American Girl Doll Hospital

Hello ladies!
Can anyone tell me about their experience with the AG doll hospital? It doesn't list prices, even ball park on their website. I am wondering what different things have cost you to get done and what kinds of things they can do to help the well loved dolls out.
I see on ebay listings for ones that are really cheap but need some TLC or in some cases things like limbs reattached.
I'm wondering if buying them and sending them to the hospital is cost effective or if it ends up costing more in the long run.
My daughter loves dolls and recently has fallen in love with AG dolls.
I'm just wondering if the hospital is something worth doing.
I don't need all the bits and parts for the AG dolls because I sew, knit and am learning crochet and know that any generic 18" doll items are all compatable so buying used dolls would be fine so long as I can get them cleaned up to begin with.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

@Sara B, Thank you for the link. When I looked around it wasn't coming up and for a while the link you put did not load at all and gave me a black screen. It finally comes up and I was able to see it. I don't know why the link would not work for me. I kept trying for 2 days.
I was also hoping to hear about the experiences in addition to the prices and so far it sounds like it's very well done and worth the money. It will of course depend on how much the base doll is as to whether it is worth it or not. We are within reasonable driving distance of one of the stores so we could actually go bring it in ourselves.
My daughter loves her AG mini and is getting one brand new big one that looks insanely like her for the holidays this year. She's already asking for others so I'm looking at options to not go completely broke LOL

The doll hospital is very expensive. I brought my daughter's AG doll in because there was a small mark on her face that wouldn't wash off, no matter what I did. The doll hospital cost was $49 plus $7 for shipping. They told me that they basically had to put a new head on the AG doll. Replacement hands or feet might be cheaper.

Here's what little I know.

The last time I knew, which was several years ago, re-wigging was $30. A doll with "silver eye," in which the eye color has changed to a silvery blue with the underlying spiral pattern visible, used to be and probably still is fixed for free (you still ship) because that is considered to be a manufacturing defect. As for removing facial marks, I think it depends on what it is. A few tricks to try on your own first - you can clean doll skin with a paste of baking soda and water without doing any damage to painted surfaces. Hand sanitizer gel will fade or even remove ink marks, but it also removes the paints and pigments on places like lips and eyelids, so I'd try it only on places where that is not an issue, such as arms and legs.

We sent my DD's AG doll to the doll hospital because of some vigorous play by a younger guest in our home, one her eyes got stuck in the open position and the eyelashes sort of disappeared. I fully expected to pay something like 60.00 for a head replacement, but I was blown away, when they sent back a doll with a brand new head for FREE! They took responsibility and said it was a quality issue on their product. The amazing part was her hair wasn't looking too good before either, and now she had brand new hair! Wonderful service!

They always had the prices in the catalog but I haven't looked in years. Just call them, they will tell you the prices.

I'm not too sure..but I looked into it once for a doll that's given to me. By the time you pay for shipping and the hospital cost...it wasn't worth it to me. Maybe if you're really attached to a certain doll. But I honestly don't think it would be worth it to buy a doll...then fix it. I'm sure it would be darn close to the cost of a new doll.

We had a wonderful experience with AG doll hospital. We had to send the doll and we got a new head for her (hair was a wreck and there were marks on her face; got it second hand) and she came back in a nice box, with hospital gown, balloon, etc. and looks GREAT! Well worth it.
