Sometimes it will rectify itself, sometimes it won't. As long as it's not painful, there's no reason to do anything.

My daughter had an umbilical hernia. The doctor watched it for a long time to see if it would close by itself, but when she turned 3 he decided surgery might be a good option. She was 3 1/2 when we had it corrected. It's a quick procedure. Downtime wasn't very long, maybe a couple of days. Her belly was tender for a week afterward, but she was definitely up and playing before then.

My 2 year old has one and my 1 year old has one.
They are small, but don't seem to be getting better.
For each of them the docs said wait until the age of 3 and we will evaluate then.

I will have them fixed if need be.
I had a friend who had it fixed as an adult and she wishes her mom had done it years ago! She was always super bothered by it and wouldn't wear bathing suits ect....

I've had two kids with an umbilical hernia. My son (currently 3) still has one, so they no longer think it will correct itself, but don't want to operate until he's 5. My daughter's has almost completely closed (currently 17 months) and the doctors are anticipating it to close on its own.

Both my daughter and two of my nieces had them. None of them required any intervention (they were pretty small) and closed up all by themselves. Umbilical hernias are pretty common in infancy and most don't require any medical action - only the really large ones do.
Good luck!
