Am I Too Old?

I'll be 32 in a month (EEK!) and I want to do something crazy! I've decided to dye my hair blond with light purple highlights. Is that ok or am I too old for such a young funky hairdo? I don't FEEL 32 and I don't look 32. Not that 32 has a "look" or anything ;) I'm trying to grow my hair out and just want to do something fun while it's in the process. I'm a SAHM, but I might be going back into the workforce in the fall. If I'm going to do something fun, now's the time! I just don't want to be one of those people that others look at and think "she's trying too hard." So, what do you all think? am I too old? should I just stick with a conservative 'do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the encouragement! I made an appt to have it done :D

To the person that asked about my husband...he wants me to dye it JET BLACK (my hair is brown) and get the vivid purple and red highlights. So, yeah...he's all for it! LOL! He loves it when I change up my look.

I am 58 and have been seriously considering getting purple streaks in my natural blonde hair. It's your hair, you can do whatever you want!
You are surely not too old!

OK I'm also 32, and I say yes. It's the purple that causes me to think so.
There's a lot that you can do with 2 colors or different highlights, etc...to get a fun, funky do. We're certainly still young, so I say DO IT for that part! But I would suggest keeping the colors natural, rather than rainbow colored.

That just makes me think you're trying to be a 19 yo punk instead, especially if you're looking to get back into the workforce. It's going to hinder people's first impression of you.

Just my thoughts.

I say go for it! I am 29 (so not too far behind you) with 3 kids (11,6,4) and love playing with my hair. Different cuts, colors, etc. Especially when I am trying to let it grow out or something I play with layers, and color.
I remember my mom often had "eggplant" hair when I was in middle school/high school so older then you are now. She also had a friend who was alot older than her that her whole head was purple with one of the short spiky cuts. Long before Halle Berry did it, so it was not chic yet.
I actually was thinking of what next for my own hair.... I am trying to grow it out (again) and want something fun. Last time I went dark brown with red and blond highlights (I am a blonde but LOVE dark hair) my stylist always trys to make it look natural..... but I have been thinking of doing something funky this time and telling her to make it as not-natural as possible. My kids are all blond so when my hair is dark I feel like I don't "belong" to them or something..... but if it is totally obviously not natural then hey that could be fun!
I say go for it! My husband is a tattoo artist and he has pierced the nose or eyebrow of some very old (like 80) women and he said there is an amazing difference in the old lady who came in and the younger cool happy fun lady that leaves! So if an 80 year old great grandma can peirce her nose, you can for sue have purple streaks in your hair!
Good luck, hope this helps :)

I think painting your nails all different colors is a nice wild thing to try and a lot easier to recover from. If you're growing your hair out and don't want a lot of breakage, avoid dyeing it a lot. It'll fry your hair fairly quickly and you'll end up cutting it off again to get rid of the split ends.

i don't think your to old to do the blond and if your heart says go for the purple then Hey go for what you know. but if you plan on going back to the workforce i don't know how long it takes for the purple to come out ten maybe you should natural highlights and blond or maybe the blond and a short haircut. but if you know for a fact by the time you get ready to go back to work the purple will have faded completetly then why not. unless you are going back to a job that wouldn't mind the purple. you only live once and only get to be young once.good luck.

What does your husband say? lol
I'm old enough (41) that coloring my hair doesn't sound "fun" to me... but that's just me. I'm quite conservative and always have been. I have never even colored my hair (I did get some highlights once when I was in my early 20s). I'm just not that into it, although I know that with the younger generation ALL the girls color their hair practically as a way to pass the time.. lol.

So, that said... I would say.. 1) would your husband freak out? and
2) would it damage the ends where you are trying to grow it out and delay your "end game" goals? Then go from those 2 answers...
Good luck!

Go for it! And.....I saw a post asking what your husband would think......well, honey, it's not his hair.

My friend has white blond hair and regularly gets pink highlights. She is in her 40's and looks AMAZING!!!

I am 31 also and don't feel or look "it". Cheers and Happy Birthday! ;)

I say go for it - if now is the time, before you go back to work, then do it now because you may not be able to "look" that way once you return to work. I work with a number of professionals - i would love a tatoo that goes from my elbow up - but i know better.... at least you can dye your hair back.

If you really truly want to do this go for it. I do have to say though that if you are questioning it and worried what others will think you may want to hold off. You don't want to do this and then walk around with your head hung in shame because you think the world will judge you. So you have 2 options,(1)go for it and say to heck with the rest of them (2) stick with what you have and continue wondering what could have been.

Like others have said, try it. If you don't like it...fix it.

Go for it have fun with it. Because when you look back and say "Gosh, I really wish I had done more fun stuff"....that doesn't make you feel better about yourself. And hey - if you don't like it - do something else. Then when it gets closer to the workforce time - then go back to "normal". Good luck - let us know what you decide.

Gosh...I don't know how old is too old...40? Once your own kids are old enough to have the hairdo? When you have grandkids? I don't think it's 32.
I think I'll go with the point at which your kids can do it. Then it starts to look like you're just trying to be hip so your child thinks you're a friend, it starts to look desperate. I think you're good to go for a few more years! lol

I don't think you are... have fun with life! If others have an issue with it oh well - I've come to the believe that I need to do stuff for me & my family that make us happy... and if you don't pay my bills, then I don't care if like my chooses or not. Might not be the best way of thinking, but I have altered my life so much for others & they just walk all over me - so I quite caring what they want or think.
