Alternatives to Plastic

I just found out about something the scientists are calling, "plastic soup". It is a mass of plastic waste twice the size of the United States floating in the pacific ocean between Hawaii and Japan! Really think about that. Isn't it insane? There are so many good childrens' products out there that use plastic, but after reading about this I can't bear to buy anymore. Any suggestions for alternatives?

What can I do next?

Amazon.com has "organic" and fair trade toys.
I've bought some and my kids like it.
Just go to www.amazon.com and put in the search word "organic toys." There will be lots of selections. Real cute too.

Good luck,

I have always tried to avoid plastic toys because of the toxins they leech. Especially when kids suck/chew on them. I buy wooden toys. Tuesday Morning has good prices. Oompatoys.com has a good selection.

Books, flash cards...check out Lakeshore Learning or Discovery Toys?? Or, use hand me down plastic toys that are clean...then the plastic already existed so you are recycling. How about toys made of wood. Germany is known for wonderful wooden toys.
