Hi,
Ebay now has a classified section that is local and free. Posted items stay out there for about 3 months. Also, some freecycle groups also have a cafe where you can post items for sale.
Hope that helps!
I was wondering if anyone knows of any good alternatives to selling things on Craigslist. I already do freecycle but I have something to sell and normally craigslist is where I would have posted it but now that I know they are responsible for monsters being able to buy sex with children I cannot bring myself to use their website anymore. (I am aware of the fact that they recently got rid of the adult area of their site here in the U.S. but they still host other sites overseas that enable these heinous practices.) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. I should mention the item is a desk! A very large desk. Not quite ebay material but thank you!

well ebay has a classifieds section ( I know you said not ebay, but ebay has other options) and also you could specify pick up only in your listing - I have sold lots of things like that.
you could ask a local furniture consignment or antique store how much they would give you for it, most local areas have a "green sheet" or similar newspaper for ads.
ad in the local paper should work out. i'd use a cell phone number or create an email address just for this type of thing. using your home phone could allow a reverse look up and anyone could get your address.
www.napervilleyardsales.com-it is not limited to the naperville area.
oodle is another free online classified
The only alternative I know of is ebay. But if you list on there be prepared to pay high fees. I listed on there for years until they changed their feedback policy and sellers can no longer leave feedback for buyers. It makes buyers feel like they can treat you any way they want because theres no consequenses but they can leave feedback for you any way they wish. I wish I knew of a better site too!
do you have a used(name yourcity).com? Where I live it is www.usedpei.com and it is quite popular.
I respect that you don't want to participate in that. You have to ask yourself not only which options are out there for selling, but also "Where do people go to buy?" Then you're left with Craigslist, Ebay or your local paper. Some cities have papers dedicated to classifieds that are available at places like Denny's, etc, but I don't think they work well for selling that kind of stuff.
Good luck.
Depending on what you are selling, we sometimes use bigboytoys.com, but that is for truck, 4 wheelers, guns and the like. Here we have alaskalist.com, could your state have something similar?
local tv/newspaper online sites have free classified sections sometimes
american classifieds/thrifty nickel
local newspaper sometimes have specials
ebay(i would not fool with shipping if it is large or heavy)
There is freecycle. Lof ythe area you are in and follow the directions. You will get free offers and people who want things through your e-mail.
