Hi everyone-
I want to call my doctor, but don't want to cry wolf. I am 33 weeks pregnant and Thurs night I lost this huge chunk of gel out of me. No blood. I had cramps and diarrea all night and next morning. Since then everything has been fine. I have contractions, but nothing regular to cause concern. I do NOT think I am going into labor or anything, but it seems sooo early to have lost that plug. Is there anything else that gel could have been? Also, I am a little worried because for the last two days I have barely felt the baby move. She usually is a maniac at night and when I first wake up. Nothing for two days really. I have eaten, layed on my side, switched sides...squished my belly...nothing seems to get her going. Should I call the doctor?
Thanks for all the responses! I am HAPPY to report that by early Saturday afternoon, movement returned as normal!!! She's walloping me as I write. :)
As far as the plug...doc says things will happen earlier than due date, but that the plug comes in pieces sometimes and we still can be weeks away...FINE WITH ME!!! Thanks again everyone!

I think you should call the doctor...ASAP! No one will think you are crying wolf! Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck. keep us posted!
Get to the doctor - NOW!!! My sister lost her last pregnancy because she didn't call soon enough. Get off the computer and call the doctor!! Good luck.
stop reading this now and CALL THE DOCTOR ASAP!!!!!
Any time you have decreased fetal movement, you should call the doctor. I pray all is ok....
ps I just read your follow up response that the baby is moving... but did you go in to your doctor anyway? If you have movement and then no movement, I would definitely ask for a nonstress test (NST). Do not take any chances. My first child was born still and I wish I could reverse the clock and call the doctor when the fetal movement started decreasing....
call the doctor! its better to be safe than sorry because if something happened youll beat yourself up over it...just call i mean doctors are use to this sort of thing but you have a reason because something came out of you its not like you felt one less kick than usual but just call and make sure everything is ok besides at this point arent you seeing the doctor every two weeks?
It's already monday morning so I hope you have already seen a doctor since Saturday when you posted...it not, get there this morning!! There is no such thing as crying wolf when it comes to being pregnant. They are used to moms concerns...and a mom concern is more important than any doctors thoughts!!
Call you Doctor!!! I was bleeding and never knew it until we got to the hospital. You should not wory how may times you call or go to the hospital. I was in the hospital/obgyn office 3 times a week. Never cared what people thought. Call them and get an app..............
call your doctor!!! they can do any easy test that straps a belt to your waist and monitors teh baby's heartbeat and movement. call today!!!
YES! Please cal the doctor right away. Decreased fetal movement is definitely reason to call him. I know from experience....lost my first baby to placental insufficiency and could have prevented it if I'd paid attention to fetal movement more closely.
YES CALL THE DOCTOR NOW. Your stressing is not good. If he is a good MD he /she will understand. Your instincts are the best thing nature has given you, trust them no matter what and if the Doctor dismisses them insist on treatment that will make you calmer.
My 1st pregnancy I was 3.5cm dialated and 85% efaced for 1 month before my due date. I had 3 faulse labors, and I woke up in the middle of the night on the 8th and all day on the 9th I was contracting perfectly (40, 39, 38...) I went in on the 10th at 5am and they told me nop not in labor go home I am now late Induse me because I am not going home. He had the cord wraped around his neck and the docotor after arguing with me all day I was not in labor told my husband that it was a good thing I insisted on the inducton. Trust yourself.
You should absolutely call the doctor. There is no such thing as crying wolf when it comes to your children!!!!!
Yes!!! Call the doctor!!!!
Call you doctor immediately. Don't mess around with something like this. Especially with decreased fetal movement. You can call your doctor at any time day or night. It is what they are there for. They chose this line of work. This is what they want to do. Never be afraid of bothering your doctor. They expect you to call. It is better to be checked out then to let it go.
First, of course you should be worried. We're women that's what we do. Second, call your doctor...that is what you pay them for. Cry wolf or not, they should know about this. Third, try eating something high in sugar, that is if your not diabetic. She may be moving, but your just to busy to notice, which happens alot. Plus she's running out of space in there. But if it doesn't increase her movements your doctor should know that too. They may want you to come in to be checked. And you should be. Better safe then sorry. Even if it is nothing, you should be checked. You should lay on your left side as that is where the baby gets the most blood supply. When contractions start, drink water. It could be caused by dehydration. Your right, if the contractions stop, are irregular, or go away, it is just brackston hicks. Your uterus contracts the whole time your pregnant, we just don't feel it. This is your body preping for labor. I never felt them myself. I only felt contractions when I went into labor. But get checked out. It will ease your mind and body. Right now the last thing your body needs is stress.
Are you sure it is the plug or just secretions I have been having discharge all along and sometimes it is heavy and the doctor said that is normal. The decrease fetal movementis normal too because the baby is getting bigger and there is less room. I would just let you doctor know what is going on so he or she can examine you to make sure everything is ok
I don't mean to sound cruel but are you CRAZY??!!! Ofcourse call the Dr. I understand that you don't want to be one of those women who call the Dr. for every little thing(I was the same way) but you have a life inside of you!I have uterine fibroids and cysts and was in the hospital all the time because of low fetal movement or when I thought my water broke or lost my plug! It is always better to be safe then sorry. Because if god forbid you don't seek medical attention then you will NEVER forgive yourself!!! please call dr. ASAP!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Call your doctor immediately. Who cares if it's nothing- that's great then right?! But if it is something, it would need immediate attention, and your doctor is the only one who will know or can figure it out for sure!!!
Call the doctor right now!!!!!
B., if you have a medical concern, you should not waste time on the internet and should always contact your medical caregiver. No one on the internet can diagnose a problem or let you know that you and your baby are okay, and while it turned out that things are fine (thank goodness!), if there was a medical issue, time can be of the essence to ensure the safety of your baby.
Good luck
CALL CALL CALL!!!!!!!! I never lost my mucus plug but at 36 weeks my little guy stopped moving. I called the doctor (and had called several times previously) and was told to come in. They put the moniter on me and nothing, gave me lots of juice..nothing...They monitored me for a few hours. Next thing i know, they are giving me a c-section. It turns out that somehow my little guy had a knot in his cord and wasn't getting enough of what he needed. Thankfully he is fine, but if i had waited it could have been worse. Dont think taht you're "crying wolf". I felt the same way and my dr said to call WHENever i had a concern. thats what tehy are there for!! please call asap!
Hi B.. I would call the Dr. Anytime you are concerned about something you should call. Better safe than sorry....Before my son was born (he is 4 months now) I was not feeling much movement. The Dr. seemed very concerned, It ended up being nothing...Good luck.
Go to the Dr. and let him know. It is better letting the Dr. kmow what has happened and especially that you don't feel movement of the baby. It may be nothing but getting checked would be the right thing to do.
Bless you,
T.
YOU CALL YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT NOW!! You get in for an ultrasound too.
After loosing your mucus plug it can be weeks before labor...or days though.
But there is no reason to risk your baby's health because you are scared to call your doctor. Thats silly.
Stop reading these blogs and call your doctor!
Hi,
A pregnant woman is never crying wolf. A mucus plug and decreased movement - call your doctor ASAP.
LJ
It sounds like that was your mucas plug...I am told that only means you could go into labor any time between now and 2 weeks. As for the decreased movement, that is not crying wolf...I will not get into details to scare you, but I have WAY too much experience in bad things...CALL YOUR DR!!!! That is what they are there for, and if they get upset or make you feel bad or that you are crying wolf...perhaps you need a new Dr. Not to be mean, but you need to feel confident!! If it gives you peace of mind...it can't be wrong!! Good Luck and God Bless!!!
Call the doctor ASAP!!
B.,
You ar NOT crying wolf...you ARE in labor! My nephews (yes, plural) were both born at 32 weeks, and my daughter at 38, so there is a range.
But your symptoms - loss of plug, contractions, diarrea, and decreased fetal movement are all signs of labor. You must call. If it turns out to be a false alarm, frankly, so what? But you should be checked!!
Good luck!
A.
Call and go see your doctor NOW! A.
PLEASE call your doctor!! That is what they are there for. It sounds like something is definately going on that needs to be checked out and if it turns out to be nothing than no big deal but better safe than sorry.
Hi B..
I would call the Dr anyway. Better safe. But, I lost my mucus plug weeks before. It can happen a lot earlier. But, I would be concerned about the movement. You may not feel as much because she won't have as much room to move around. It may be as simple as that. But, they should do a scan to see if everything is ok anyway. Good luck. :) I'm sure she is just fine!!
NEVER be afraid to call your doctor. CALL!
B.,
If you haven't done so already, CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!!! Take it from someone that lost a child (due to an idiotic doctor... Dr. Jameson Williams). My second pregnancy was with twins. I went to the doctor weekly, had ultrasounds every other week, & that heartbeat thing weekly. I went to the hospital numerous times. I figured that I would rather look like a hypocondriac than risk losing one or two more babies. I honestly don't know about mucous plugs since I had a planned c-section. Anyway, who cares what doctors think! Call your doctor. Since it is night time, just go to the hospital. It's better to waste a few hours at the hospital than lose a baby. I hope everything is fine & please keep us informed.
Best wishes,
A.
Call your Doctor now!!!!!
Call your dr immediately, better safe than sorry.!!!!!
Call the doctor. CRY WOLF. You are talking about your baby - who cares if they get mad. I called my doctor alot with my first - I was high risk on heparin injections and then when the baby came I bought her a candle with a holder and a little shade. She loved it. You are paying lots of money and you want a healthy baby. If there is a problem right now - I am sure they can do a C-Section - DON'T WAIT!!!!!
If you haven't already, CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! There is no such thing as crying wolf, especially with decreased fetal movement.
OMG If you have not called, hopefully, it will not be too
late.
Whe in doubt , call your doctor. i am sure all is fine, but do not jeopordize anything. Make the call NOW!
My doctor always told me that it's better to be safe than sorry. Call your doctor - in the end - even if it is nothing - you will have peace of mind.
If you seriously feel that your baby is not moving the way it normally does, you should see your Provider and have a Non-Stress Test done. This is simply being placed on a fetal monitor to evaluate your baby. I'm sure all is fine, but when it comes to that precious cargo, you can never be too cautious!
In my opinion, a pregnant woman can never cry wolf. Call your doctor ASAP. Don't ever hesitate!
Lynsey
Go to your doctor immediately - nothing is every too small to call about when it comes to the health of your child.
You should always call the doctor if your gut feeling is that something might be wrong. If you have a good responsible docor, there is no such thing as crying wolf, in other words, no matter how many times you call, he should take every call with the same seriousness. Better safe than sorry. please call right now
B.,
Go to your OB. Get answers. Get relief from worry. You are not crying wolf, you are worried about the health of your unborn baby.
Losing your plug can happen, although it's not exactly common.
Early contractions are Braxton Hicks, although my best friend wanted to take her oldest in to the OB and say: "How do you like my Braxton Hicks?"
Go. You can best alleviate your concerns this way, and if there is any concern, they will be on top of it.
Good luck!
M.
you're mucus plug from what i remember is key in delivery, and decreased movement on top of that, CAll your doctor - It's not crying wolf, it's taking care of your baby!
I would go to the E.D if I were you.
You should call your doctor. I had decreased fetal movement also in the last weeks, but I called and they sent me for a non-stress test to monitor the baby's movement and heart rate. They also do a quick ultrasound to monitor your fluids. The fluid levels are extremely important also. Call your doctor...remember they don't work for free, this is why they are there. I always felt weird calling for every little thing, but any decrease in fetal movement for extended periods of time warrants a call. Did you try drinking O.J. or caffeine then laying still for half an hour? They told me to do that when I wasn't feeling my daughter move too much. It worked for me. Good luck, call your doctor!
Call the doctor....do not jeapordize your health or the health of the baby by worrying that the doctor will think you are crying wolf. OB/GYN's expect these types of calls and rarley think of them as "crying wolf".
YES. Always call the doctor, mdiwife, whatever. In pregnancy especially you must never doubt your gut feelings. Good luck.
Definately call. They expect you to call if something is up. Its there job and they would not have gone into GYN if they were going to be upset. Better be safe and reassured that your baby is okay.
You should absolutely call your doctor. If you have any concern that the baby has stopped moving or slowed down you should call. Better to be safe than sorry. The doctors don't care, it's their job and they understand our concerns. It would just be a relief to hear that things are fine this way you dont worry too much. As far as the mucus plug goes, I lost mine around the same time 32/33 weeks and didnt deliver until 37 weeks (but I had twins!) But you should call the doctor and check in on that little baby and make sure she's fine!
Call your doctor!!!!!!
You should have called the doctor two days ago when this first happened. Cry wolf? You are 33 wks pregnant, there's no such thing as crying wolf.
Call doctor immediately. It could be fine but check it out. Take care of yourself :-) xoox
A.
B., go to the dr's. NEVER MIND this crying wolf thing. You call NOW and they would want to see you immediately. If you not feeling anything, it doesn't mean anything serious, but it could be. NkEVER think or at least DON'T dwell on what if it's nothing bad....never second guess it. It's for your baby's sake!! CALL NOW!!! PLEASE!!! Let me and us ladies know and I will pray for you and keep me updated so I know what to pray for as time goes on. PLEASE CALL YOUR DOCTOR NOW!!
B.,
If you are uncomfortable or scared about what's been happening, then I would call you doctor right away. Don't ignore your feelings about this.....it is YOUR body, and you're the best judge of what is normal and what is not!
Any doctor that truly cares about his patients will want to see you, not only to see what's going on, but to put your mind at ease. Stress during the last few weeks of your pregnancy is not good for you.
I don't know if losing your mucous plug early is a cause for concern, and sometimes babies do get less active shortly before your labor begins, but only your doctor can tell you exactly what is going on, and what, if anything, needs to be done about it. I would definitely call him and go in to be checked out as soon as possible.
I know your scared but you really should call your doctor and inform them of whats happening. It is normal for some people to loose there plug early but not feeling the baby move is a very scare thought.
Never be afraid to call your Doctor. If I were you I would get in the car and go to the Doctor immediately, maybe in the emergency room. You can never be too careful when it comes to the life of your unborn child. If you don't go and something happens you will never be able to forgive yourself.
S.
B., the same thing happened to me. The mucus plug could be lost at any time in thr pregnancy. As long as there was no bloody show it is fine. The mucus plug is about the size of a soft ball so if you lost a huge chunk that is ok, it is normal. As far as the movement that is ok too. The baby is running out of room in there. She is just getting ready. You only have 7 weeks left and this is your second so things run a little tighter in there. As long as there is a fetal heart beat then she is fine. If it would ease your mind make an appointment and have them get the doppler going. Good luck!!
CALL THE DOCTOR!!! You should never hesitate to call the doctor when something like that happens.. It sounds like you lost your mucous plug. the fact that you don't feel the baby move is very concerning to me... I'm an RN on the materity floor.. I would not hesitate to call the doctor NOW. better safe than sorry, right? I hope all goes well. Please let me know what happens... I would think they will have you come in for an ultrasound annd check...
