M.D.
If you think she is just sucking and not drinking, then that would explain why she is nursing so often: she isnt getting enough milk! You need to make sure she actually swallows.
Dear moms,
Maybe you can help me. My DD nurses too often for a couple of days already. She even started to wake up during the night (was sleeping 9-10hrs). Sometimes I feel she does not nurse but only sucks. She is energetic and started crawling all over. I feel very weak sometimes from nursing so much! Anybody had similar experience?
Thank you all for your answers. I think that is it. I think this is a growth spurt. Because she is so happy otherwise and very playful! I fed her before the bath time (a meal I skipped sometimes, because of too many things to do) and fed her from two breasts before the bedtime. She slept much better through the night! And I eat more, it helps. I think I was forgetting my healthy snacks in between meals...

like a mom said, it must be growth spurt which will go away soon... drinks more and eats more.... KEEEEEP it up with breast feeding :o)
I went thru similar experience with my first son in every 3 mos up til 18 mos old, i stopped. I have 6 wks old daughter and is nursing and am hoping to cont do up to 2 yrs.
My son did the same thing only he was younger birth to 2 months. At one point it was like he was feeding 21 hours out of 24 straight & I was not getting any sleep. Finally I had enough & called my lactation consultant who said he was not actually eating all that time just "bonding" with me. I fell for it & contiuned as my son also would not take the binky & I did not want to give up breast feeding so I never gave him a bottle. He gave up nursing himself at 2 1/2 months & then ate less often (every 3-4 hours by bottle). Then of course loved the binky & still does at 21 months.
So I would say your daughter is either going through a growth spurt which very well could be the case or she is bonding with you.
I am expecting in 3 weeks & will nurse again however will not fall for that bonding stuff. I felt bonded to my son even before he was born & even when he went to all bottles we were still bonding & have a great bonded relationship today! So my son will eat every 2 hrs at first (newborn) I will not give in to anymore than that & I will not let him just "suck" for hours on end, 1/2-45 mins. of eating at one time only.
She may be going through a growth spurt. My daughter is 10 months and she went through a similar stage a couple of months ago. If you're feeling weak, try eating more or more often while she's draining you so much. And soon it'll pass. Best of luck!
Hi N. - I didn't nurse my girls past 4 months, so I don't have experience with them nursing often at 8 months, but I do remember that around 8-9 months they both went through a growth spurt AND started doing a lot more moving! They were either rolling, crawling, crusing, or all at the same time in the case of my youngest. It could be that your baby is going through a similar thing and is waking more often due to all the growing and changing she's going through. When my kids were that age and woke up, they usually just wanted to be near one of us or couldn't soothe themselves back to sleep because of all the moving they were doing both in and out of the crib. All that exploring might also be making your daughter legitimately more hungry. She might really need to eat! To find out, you might try giving her a little milk, then a little water afterwards to see if she really is hungry or just wants to suck on something. You could also trya pacifier before nursing to see if that might help her back to sleep. I really think that some babies do need to feed in the middle of the night until they are 12 months or so, even though the doctor might tell you different. My youngest was (and still is) VERY active and she was seriously hungry in the middle of the night until she was 11-12 months, even though she was a big baby. Once her age caught up with all her moving and walking, she stopped eating during the night. It's a lot of trial and error to see what will work for you all - good luck and hang in there!!
N. its time for you to stop nursing your baby she is now 10 months old. she might do bether to take her milk froma bottle. and you want be so tired any moore. try that and let me know how you did good luck
