Almost 37 Weeks Pregnant and We Still Have Not Picked a Name!

I will be 37 weeks pregnant on Thursday and my husband and I have still not picked a name! We are having a boy. We did not have this problem with our first 2 children. Our daughter is Eowyn Elysabeth and our son is Benjamin Asher. My husband likes the names Samuel David or Samuel Jeremiah, but I am totally up in the air about it. I have not heard anything that fits yet, for me. I am so afraid this baby will be born and we still will not have a name, and won't be able to agree on one, or I will not like the one we choose. Help! Any suggestions? Meanings definitely matter. I do not want to give my son a name that has a negative or stupid meaning. lol My husband comes from a German/Scottish/Irish/Native American background. Mine is mostly Irish and French. If that makes any difference. ;) Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I had 3 names for mine, and decided after I held them and spent a day with them, picked which name "fit" them. Maybe that could work for you?

Personally, I love BOTH the names your husband likes.

Congratulations!

I agree to wait and meet the baby first. We knew the first name for our child...we had a middle name, then my husband suggested another middle name.

We never finished the discussion. Then 4 days later, I went into early labor...we felt a bit panicked and decided to look at her to make the final decision.

The moment they laid her on my stomach, they asked, so what is her name?

We both agreed, I said her name out loud and she lifted her head and turned to looked at me..we knew it was perfect for her.

It's not unusual to see "Baby Boy Smith" or "Baby Girl Jones" on the birth certificate. I've known people who wanted to wait until they *saw* the new one. Then they found it easy to decide on a name. Sometimes it has taken them a couple of weeks! Then they send out the announcements once they have realized that she is a perfect Jennifer or he was born to be a Matthew.

I love the name Samuel. For a middle name, you have a lot of backgrounds to choose from! But, again, you can take your time. Is there a long-standing name in the family on either side? My dad's name was David, so of course I'm fond of that.

Think about the whole name. Say it aloud in different contexts: "Samuel David Jones, M.D." "Samuel Jeremiah Smith, first string tackle on the high school football team." "Captain Samuel Marcus Johnson, U.S. Army." "Samuel O'Shaunessy Klein, do I have to come up there?"

I know a few couples who had Baby Boy for the first week or so. If you can stand it, get to know your newest little guy first and then see what name he might 'be'. You might find he comes out with his own name that fits him perfectly--- one that you might never had thought of before meeting him.

My daughter didn't have a name for the first two days after she was born, and then 5 months later, we changed her name anyway. You don't need to feel this pressure right now. Continue looking for names you love, but relax, because you can make it work.

we named our son before we left the hospital. it was down to two names for us too. we had a first name like you did but the middle names were up in the air. it was either going to be after both of our grandfaters on our moms side or cash for the middle name. we decided to honor our family members and gave our son four names first , two middle and a last. ugh the back lash we got for doing this was negitave and family members told us that it was too much, thats dumb, we should have just picked one. it was very rude but what was done was done. then we found out my sil was having a child and they planned to name it cash if it were a boy. which we had not shared with anyone that was an option for our son...just my brother and i really liked it. ok after all that i would vote for Samuel David. I have always liked the name daivid but looks like aside from the scottish your hubby and I are the same blood mix!

No biggie I think your just fine. I think you have 10 days after the birth to figure out one. I didn't have a name for my boy till a day after he was born. I had a list, and we didn't even pick it from the list. My husband is from a country that doesn't really name the child for a week or more. Just cause they can pass from many things in that time. They have a ceremony and the works when the name is chosen. Its a very crucial thing for them to name them auspicious names to bring them the best of luck in their life. I wouldn't sweat it. Most people didn't name their children till days after, cause we didnt have the technology we do now.
your boys have a biblical theme ring to them, try these on lol they are Joseph's brothers.
Reuben
Simeon
Levi
Judah
Dan
Naphtali
Gad
Asher - also already yours!
Issachar
Zebulun
Benjamin - already yours!

We did come up with a name for our son until on our way to the hospital. We didn't agree on a name for our daughter until we were in the delivery room.

Trust me, you will see him, hold him, and know the perfect name.

What about
Samuel Matthew "Gift of God"
Samuel Aaron "Exhaulted"

Don't fret.
My daughter was 4 days old before we could decide.

My son's name was agreed upon early on. We stuck with it all the way.

Names are hard. You don't have to put such pressure on yourself. When you hold your new little one, the right name might just come to you.

Best wishes, and be sure to let us know when the baby arrives!

Did you know Samuel means "God's gift"? Sounds like a perfect meaning to me. Middle names are harder though ...I have a difficult time suggesting them without a last name and would never ask you to reveal yours (nor do I think you should). Best wishes and I hope someone is better equipped than I with middle name suggestions.

When picking our names we went to a bookstore and looked through the books with baby names and meanings behind them. We wrote down three that we liked along with the meanings. Our girls didn't have their names until after they were born. You'll know which name fits after you meet your son. Good luck!

One of my favorite boy's names is Xavier. It starts with an X!!! How cool is that?! You could call him "Zave."
It's something most people have heard before, but definitely not common.
My husband would never have gone for it, and fortunately we only had girls. But I always like to put it out there. Also, it's very French.
Good luck! :-)

I second the suggestion for Nicholas. I love that name. Classic and yet not over-used. I would have named my 2nd son Nicholas but I already have a newphew who goes by Nick (his name is actually Richard Nicholas) so I went with Alexander.

I also love the name Samuel!

Go yell them both out your back door and see which one feels better :)
