I feel your pain. My son is now 3 and I swear his WHOLE little life the child is sick every 3 weeks. He is NOT in daycare either!!
I finally told to doctor I DEMAND allergy meds cause OTC just wasn't helping AT ALL.
So now he get his Zertec (which I made them up the dose because it wasn't lasting what they claimed it would). I was given a inibulizer (mispelled) and unfortunatley I had to return cause he wasnt' dx'd to keep it.
I had to buy one ($210 !!) and I already had the medication for it.
Sadly, he still get sick still and that often I am really ready to freak out cause I am tired of doctors' telling me it's normal?!
As for the cold medicine. I know that they say your little one is too little. I gave my child cold medicine around 18 months cause the tylenol didn't work by itself. You could cut the dose (the smallest dose) into a quarter amount. Just to take the edge off or ask about Benedryl.

Good Luck
N.

My 2.5 year old has suffered from colds similar to this since he was about 6 months old. Every three to four months he would have a cold, with tons of coughing, sinus infections, ear infections. He eventually had tubes and no more ear infections. He always has a "scratchy" throat too. He was finally diagnosed with mild intermittent asthma, and the ped said that there is such a strong connection between allergies and asthma. My son is going to see an allergist next week for a full work up to see what his triggers are...and the ENT MD as well.

Call your ped and ask them if it is okay for your daughter to have Claritin...don't start any meds that friends suggest w/out always checking w/your ped at first, ecspecially since she is only one.

She may need allergy testing in the future...or you may want to ask for a referral to an ENT and/or allergey MD.

Best of luck to you and your little one !

My daughter suffered from allergies and asthma for the first 3 yrs. of her life. I finally had a doctor tell me to go to a healh food store. They have powder form of vitamin c, and an herbal tea for head colds, etc. Most of the time the people in there are very helpful. You could try this, especially with all the reports about not giving otc meds to children under 2. I hope this helps.

Hello,
My suggestion is call her doctor. Tylenol w/ cold and cough is not recommended for children under 2. I just bought some last night for my son. Check with the Dr. and see what they suggest. You would need their advice anyway on the dosing of the Tylenol anyway.
