I have severe allergies and don't know if I can take my Zrytec and Nasalcort medicine while nursing. My pediatrician said it isn't recommended, but I am miserable and want to know if anyone else has taken it while nursing or if there is anything else you can recommend. OTC don't help me at all.

Hi J., I don't take prescription medication. I get a sinus infection every year in February and I have found it is cheaper and better for you to visit the health food store. They have all natural remedies and one that works wonders for sinus and allergy. It is called Sinus Rescue. It is all natural and will clear up any sinus problems you have. You can also try tee tree oil in a humidifier to clear germs from the air. You can visit my website for more wellness information.
www.kristies.fourpointwellness.com I hope this helps. Let me know.

Hi J. H,

Try a Nasal Saline wash - it provide some relief by washing away all of the allergines within your sinus passages. I've used the AYRE brand wash along with the gel for those time that your nose is dry. I used a cotton swab as an applicator.
What I like most about the Saline wash is that you can use it as often as need because it isn't a medication.... it's all natural.

Hi J.,

In addition to Poison Control, you can also phone a local La Leche League leader and ask free of charge. Most medications are compatible with nursing, especially if your baby is full term and eating some solids (likely since your baby is 7 months), but Doctors are overly cautious and uneducated about medications and lactation. Another reference is Medications and Mother's Milk, considered THE source for accurate information about drugs and breastfeeding.

Hth,
C.

My doctor gave my Zyrtec when I was nursing. He believed it was one of the safest to take. I also agree with the mom that suggested to call poison control. They are very helpful, and with all of the conflicting information out there, they can best explain it to you..

I had the same problem. Clartin , Flonase (prescription), and Bendrill were three that I took... and both my OGBYN and allergiest said they were okay... I think Sudafed is okay too but that makes my skin crawl (yuck).
Keep in mind that Bendrill and Sudafed might reduce your milk supply. So I asked about other options... since they weren't working as well as they use to...
Anyway, my alleries were soooo bad I ended up getting allegery shot... almost one year later and I can't believe how much better I feel and I have been breastfeeding for the past 14 1/2 months!
