Hi moms ~ My 8 month old daughter has developed a little congestion and runny nose (her first experience to date with being a little sickly), I'm hoping it may take just a short while to run it's course but was wondering if anyone has any advice on what I might give her if it seems to progress(natural remedies would be my first choice, but I realize at times the other options are necessary)...........thanks so much for your time!!

My Granddaughter had congestion at 8 weeks and the doctors wouldn't do anything for her until she was 4 or 6 months so we gave her garlic oil from the capsules since that helps everyone heal congestion. It works like a charm. She doesn't like the taste but she drinks her Mom's milk afterwards and she gets over her stuffy nose within about 10 minutes. It works for adults too. It is also a natural cure for colic and worked for both of my 5 week old infants.
Humid air and Vicks vapor rub. You can also put eucalyptus oil (pure essential oil) in an aroma lamp, or in a little water on the stove, or a few drops in a humidifier (but not a lot). I believe Tea Tree oil will work as well too.
Lots of saline and the booger rocket (respirator)! Warm, steamy bathrooms. Tylenol or Motrin...congestion can cause sinus pain. I've used some naturally-based cough syrups and expectorants (HEB or Whole Foods) but I am pretty certain that they contain honey and most recommendations are that you should wait at least a year before introducing.
Hey SB!!
So I can only imagine what your little one is going through. Have you considered natural herbal tea very diluted? I know what the pedi's say but when herbal tea is diluted it's very good and heals quickly.
I personally use melaleuca herbal tea which is from Australia. I also use chamomile. The real flowers (not the tea bags) Try also adding a couple of chamomile flowers into the cool vaporizer/humidifier. This will open baby's congestion. DO not use the drugs- it has been my experience that this only makes them groggy and really... they're too young to be exposed to the chemicals in them. I'm all about natural down to my household cleaners and personal care products.
Most important DO NOT FOR ANYTHING use vicks vapor rub- the menthol in it will actually make baby be iritated and the pedi did tell me that the effects of the menthol are sometimes too drastic like itchy eyes, allergy to the other ingredients, danger of respiratory issues etc.
I'm not a doctor but I have grown up in a home where only natural teas and ointments were used!
I will say a prayer for your little one to heal fast! And for you to have energy and restful sleep!

well you should find out what is really going on first before you try to natural remedie it! if its allergies, flu, cold you need to get the right thing for the right diagnosis. good luck. my little one has allergies and with fall comming thats my guess. hope she feels better soon.
Hi, you would have to crush it but I'd use Vita C Chews1 3x's a day, Garlic 1 or 2 a day and Alfalfa 1or 2 3 x's a day.... all in vitamin form. ALL natural vitamins of course. Add it to juice or apple sauce ect.
Hope this helps.
All the things the other people said and also a humidifier.
I love to use an essential oil blend called Breathe Easier to help my kids with congestion. I put a few drops in their humidifier at night when they sound stuffy. I'll also put a few drops on a washcloth and put it on my shoulder while I rock the baby if he sounds stuffy. I LOVE it!
I also try to use the bulb syringe to clear out their little noses. Sometimes I use saline, right before bed I just let them sit in the bath for a while and then use it. The saline and suction is what works the best.
