Yes! I'm allergic to dust. Everytime I dust I have allergy symptoms unless I wear a mask. I do better with the Swiffer dusters. It's worse if I spray Pledge also. After you dust... if you mist the air with water it helps settle the dust also.

i used to. i switched over all of our cleaning and hygiene products to naturally based ones that are free of caustic chemicals. so there are no heavy fumes or anything like that. a lot of cleaning products are actually REALLY bad for you. check out http://www.HealthySafeAndClean.com and there is a list of harmful products and a break down on how some of them can hurt you. we have noticed a huge difference in allergies since we switched. i buy all of our stuff from an online whole sale club, so i dont even have to bother going out to buy stuff and it helps me save a lot of money too. they have this awesome spray you can use that kills dust mites too, so it helps with allergens even more. love it! lol.

Not anymore since I started using EcoSense from Melaleuca. I purchased their value pack and boxed up all my store brand products to see if there's really worked. Honey, I've been a customer for the last 6 years. LOL Not only did the products work extremely well, and are very inexpensive but my migraines went away. I suffered from migraines since high school!

They give all new customers $100 in free products. Let me know if you'd like to shop online with them like I do. You'll get the same discount as I do also.

I love my non-toxic cleaners! They work better than what's out there and I'm no longer sick when I clean. No more strong tile cleaner or toilet bowl cleaner. I don't allow bleach in my house. Get that stuff out of the house! Here is a link to my website. I loved the products so much I became an independent distributor. Contact me with questions:

It can be the toxic cleaning products you are using. Meleleuca is good as is Shaklee. Shaklee cleaning products were developed all because Roger Barnett's (CEO/Shaklee) son had asthma and they attributed it to the cleaning products. You can also go natural with vinegar and lemon juices and the like....you may want to google some options. These may be easier on the budget as well. I would definately recommend changing your cleaning products. Stirring the dust doesn't hel either, but it very well could be the products. Good luck.

I do. If I am using a spray cleaner I spray onto the towel/cloth that I am cleaning with instead of spraying the counter, toiliet, sink etc... If it is something that has to be sprayed I wear a mask or hold my breath, spray, leave the area until the particles settle. I have switched to Mr. Clean cleaning erasers to clean tub, sinks and counters and whatever else I can possibly use it on. When I dust on a regular basis it is not to bad but if it is really dusty then I wear a mask. I also use swiffer type things to dust since they hold the dust in. If you have a specific question about anything please feel free to contact me. God Bless!

I don't feel this way but I can imagine some would. I don't use many spray cleaners and when I do, I try not to breathe them in. The only sprays I use is maybe Windex to clean the mirrors and windows....I use clorox wipes, comet type gels that I squeeze onto the sink and then wipe. nothing that I really breathe in. There are cleaners out there you can use, one natural one that is good is either vinegar or baking soda. you can mix baking soda with water to make a paste. vinegar is supposed to really clean anything, I use it to mop my floors. the clorox wipes don't put out any fumes but make me feel really clean when I use them. I don't have money or time to be buying all natural organiic things but I am sure it is best.

I agree with the other posts that non-toxic cleaners are very important. I highly recommend 7th Generation or Method, which you can find in your local Target or grocery stores. The truly harmful chemicals found in many standard cleaners can actually contribute to and even cause allergies and asthma.

I personally am allergic to dust, mold, pollen, and dogs. I also own 3 dogs, all of which shed. When I dust or vacuum, I wear a surgeon's mask to protect me from everything stirred up into the air. Also, make sure that your vacuum is bagged, not bagless, and has a hepa filter. Despite the convenience of bagless vacuums (and they are so common these days), for those of us with allergies, bagged is the best way to go because no matter how many filters you have, those bagless canisters cannot contain all of the dust stirred up by the machine. The best advice my allergist ever gave me was to replace my vacuum!

Good luck.

M., I saw this post and thought I would respond if you haven't tried out the Melaleuca products. They are wonderful and have products for your home and personal use. There are dangerous and toxic ingredients in shampoos and face washes...even for your children that are thought to be safe! They let you try out the products for 90 days and return an empty bottle for a full refund if your not happy with them. They are like Sams or Costco where you have to pay a membership price, but it is ONLY a one time charge...not a yearly thing PLUS right now it is $1 until March 17th. So if you haven't tried them out, you should:)) You can contact me if you would like to hear an overview call to get more info on it or if you are ready to start using the products.

It is your cleaning products. They are chemicals and their toxicity is making you sick. You need to get chemical free cleaning products. They sell 8th generation in the stores and you can order from Melalucca and I am sure there are others. Chemical free products clean just as well and do not have any toxicity to cause harm to you or your family. Vinegar is a good cleaning product also. Can be used instead of bleach and glass cleaner. Clean's your counter top.

YES! But in my case it's not the cleaners that do it to me. I have to avoid some because they trigger asthma for me if they're too harsh so I just use the ones that are more gentle and make sure the room I'm in is well ventilated (as much as possible since it's winter).
Anyway, I've been allergy tested because my allergies have gotten worse over time, and especially worse since we moved into our (brand new) home from an apartment just this last year.
Turns out I'm not only allergic to dust/dust mites and cockroaches (which thankfully we don't have and I can avoid) but I am allergic to molds too. So I have just started allergy shots and I'm hoping they help!
For me, if I dust I have to use a damp cloth - I can't 'dry dust' with anything or it makes me sick - literally with what feels like a cold for several days unless I take tons of allergy meds which I can't take right now. But stirring up the dust and mold particles that come from the vents and air ducts and blow through the house makes me miserable.
You can always talk to an allergist about ways to minimize exposure to your known allergens too.
Good luck!

I use vinegar and/or baking soda for almost every cleaning job. For windows, I add a little unscented dishwashing liquid a squirt bottle with vinegar and water. Seventh Generation is a good brand, though I would recommend the unscented. I've had problems with chemicals and have been forced to go with the natural solutions, but it's better for my family too. Repeated chemical exposure can create more serious health problems down the road.
