Hi, I just got Humana and my daughter needs a pediatrician as we recently moved to Mckinney. I have been recommended Dr Burton by one of my husbands coworkers...anyone else recommend him or his group? Or another pediatrician nearby that takes Humana?
thanks for all the advice.... although all about children might have its merits, i think i'm going to stay away for now and go with one of the other pediatricians..thanks a bunch!

We have been using All about Children for 3 years (since we moved to McKinney) They are very thorough and have all the modern equipment. I am usually able to get appointments for the same day. My children are now 4 and 6.
As professional as they are, don't expect to ever actually meet with Dr. Burton or have any sort of personal relationship with the practice. I have never seen him and feel like a new patient every time we go.
If your relationship with your Dr. is important, you might want to look elsewhere.
We go to Pediatric Healthcare Associates. There are 5 doctors. All are wonderful.
Please explore your options and do NOT go to all about children pediatrics. While Dr.Burton is nice and came highly recommended, the office staff is unprofessional. They gossip about parents/kids in front of other clients. One of the doctors there said my daughter needed ear tubes when she had three ear infections in six weeks. My daughter was 4 and had never had ear infections before. I am an advanced practice nurse myself and knew that this did not make sense. I took her to an ENT because I suspected it was allergies. Turns out it was allergies and once we got those treated the infection went away. I even had to tell the doctor at Dr.Burtons office what antiobiotic to use because she could not think of what to use. She is a doctor and I am only a nurse practioner!!!! Scary! No more problems since we switched pediatricians. Also the wait is long....two plus hours for scheduled well child visits. Dr. Burton is also almost never available. I spoke three times to the office manager about multiple issues. Nothing ever improved so I decided she must be part of the problem. We now go to Dr. Gondol at Plano pediatrics. We love, love, love her and the other two doctors in the practice are good.
I also recommend Dr. Suzanne Dugopolski at ABC pediatrics. Our longest wait ever for a well-child appt was 25 minutes, and Dr. Suzanne was SUPER apologetic--we've never waited even 5 minutes at any other time. Two examples from sick visits show how great she is:
1) My DD recently had an ear infection. I called at 8am, as soon as they opened. We got an appt at 8:30am, were seen immediately, and were back home, antibiotics in hand, having stopped at CVS, by 9am!
2) My DD cut her hand on a storm door and needed stitches. We called from the car to say we were going to the ER, and were told to skip the ER and go directly to her office. She saw us IMMEDIATELY, stayed through her lunch hour to give DD stitches.
I should also say that DD had a congenital heart defect that was potentially life threatening, and Dr. Suzanne found it and saw that we got the treatment (including surgery) that DD needed. Plus, Dr. Suzanne called the day after we got out of the hospital, just to see how we were!
I have been taking my 21 mos daughter to Dr. Alvis at Stonebridge Pediatrics since she was born. I am extremely happy with our choice. I normally go in with a long list of questions and he always takes the time to answer them. I have also called the nurse numerous times and have been very happy their responses.
We also go to PHA (as do four other families we know) and we love all of the doctors on staff.
I agree with the negativity as well with Dr. Burtons office, I have also had some complaints from my parents as well. I work in pediatrics with special needs kids and I would never treat the patients the way they did my son, he is known in McKinney and EVERYONE goes to him that is the problem long waits and to many patients...he is to busy and you are just a number to him he cant remember anything about you or your child, since you only see him for the first visit and then you have to see other doctors in the office, its just not personal. I go to Dr. Paul Reyes and he is in the Medical Center McKinney. He is not that big and he is so personal and I even him his cell phone number. I would explore your options and you will find who is best for you and your needs. Good luck to you it took me awhile but if you have to go thru 10 different ones then that is what it takes.
I also know several people that went to him and had bad experiences and misdiagnoses. We go to Dr. Alvis @ Stonebridge Pediatrics on Ridge & Virginia Pkwy. He is adding another doctor to his practice but I have never met him yet. Dr. Alvis is very nice, takes time to answer my list of questions and my kids really like him. I also had a great experience with him when I delivered my 2nd during the daily doctors visits at the hospital. There is also this Urgent Care facility off 121 called Acute Kids Urgent Care. They are open after hours and on Sat. and Sun. they are all Pediatrician doctors and it is a wonderful facility to go to if your doctors office is closed (they will send any reports to your Pediatrician about the care your child recieved). For us the cost is the same copayment as a doctors visit. Good luck!
We see Yuri Cook Md & Kim Smith Md at Raintree Pediatrics in Allen (located near Presby Allen Hosp). They take tons of insurances. We've been going there for 4 months now since that is how old my son is. I love it. The wait has never been long for both well baby & sick kids visits. Staff is very professional. I highly recommend them. Beings that there are 2 docs in the group, I've never had a hard time getting an appt. Our primary is Dr. Cook who we see mainly but had to see Dr. Smith once when Dr. Cook was out of town. She was very nice and professional.
Good luck with your search.

My DDs have both gone to All About Children for 7 years now. We tend to see the female doctor (just changed as the other one moved to Austin w/ her family)as my 14 year old daughter is more comfortable with that. We've never had any problems and usually don't wait more than 15-20 min for a scheduled appt. This summer my daughter had appendicitis, and not knowing what the problem was, I took her to her dr that afternoon. They fit us in immediately and diagnosed the problem, then set everything up with the pediatric surgeon and hospital in advance. My only problem was that she had to be admitted through the emergency room - and we waited for hours because Allen Presby didn't have enough rooms in their ER. :( When we finally got in, everything was already ordered (tests, etc.) and the surgeon called with information for us as soon as the tests were done. Apparently he had been calling the ER every hour while we were waiting to get it!
Stay away from All About Children. Everything negative said here is true, at least in our case. There may be a minority who don't have the same awful experiences, but to have FIVE people say "stay away" would have ME running in the opposite direction! And not just Mamasource reviews say to stay away.... Yahoo has a review system, too, and Burton has a 1-star (out of 5) rating, and only because you can't give 0 star ratings! It would take me hours to list every single thing All About Children did to make our lives miserable, so I'm just going to trust that you'll take these good moms' advice and find yourself ANOTHER practice!! Dr. Alvis is a good one; we switched to him too after we'd finally lost patience with the ineptitude at Burton's office.
I would not recommend All About children, Dr. Burton is HORRIBLE! I have a friend who's infant was mis diagnosed by Dr. Burton and almost died, he spent weeks in the hospital after seeing Dr. Burton for a problem for months and not being diagnosed. My personal experience with him was awful! He would tell us to do something for example add rice to my daughters formula, then the next time I went in he would say what are you feeding her. I would respond that I am adding rice to her formula and he would look at me like I was crazy, after he recommended it 2 months ago. He constantly contradicts himself, and never remembers who you or your child are. We would always wait an hour in the waiting room, and then 30 minutes in the exam room before ever being seen. There is soooo much more, just look for more comments on him in different sections of mamasource. I think the referral section has more comments from other moms.. Do not go to this practice!
We now see Dr. Suzanne Dugapowki at ABC pediatrics and they are wonderful (on Virginia). You can get in quickly for sick visits and they have weekend hours.
I have been taking my 3 kids there for 4 yrs now and absolutely love their staff. I dont really care for Dr. Smith that works there. I had some issues with her in the past, but the rest of the staff are totally awesome. They all have great bedside manner and are wonderful with my kids.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is if you are there to see Dr Burton, your appt may be longer than when you have an appt with one of the other doctors there. He seems to take longer than usual when he is with a patient. He still rocks and does a wonderful job. If you dont want to wait, then I suggest seeing one of the other docs in his office. Good Luck!
I had a problem with there office almost a year ago when my son had a terrible case of Croup and had severe difficulty breathing. I took him in and the NP saw him right away we never did see a dr) but they only did a breathing treatment for a few minutes then sent him home...
we then had to go back again because he could not breath again the next day and they still would not take an x ray and they did an Epi breathing treatment and a shot of Epi (even though I asked to take some sort of treatments home they did not let me do that) then sent us home... by the next day my son had actually could not breath and we rushed him to acute kids, they gave him a shot of Epi, a epi breathing treatment and AN X RAY and his throat was 97% closed there was a tiny tiny opening in his throat about the size of a toothpick or smaller and it was getting worse. If All about children had taken the xrays on day ONE it would have shown how severely his throat was swelling shut and we could have treated it right then. but instead we racked up costly bills and he could have died in his sleep if it had swelled shut in the night and we did not know it. we did everything they told us to do but they would not listed to our instincts when we asked for xrays and treatments at home.
we changed dr's right away. and ACUTE kids urgent care clinic really were wonderful and took creat care of our son.

I read the other reviews and I don't really know where the negativity is coming from for Dr. Burton. I adore him and he did so much to help me with my son. I have never had problems with the office staff being unprofessional, and as for Dr. Burton himself, he not only remembers me and my son, but he always remembers important information about my husband who hardly ever comes to appts and always asks about him. I refer everyone I know to him. Every mom but one in my playgroup goes there as well. I have only had a long wait once and that was about 30 minutes. They have all bent over backwords to help me there. (and I was a frequent visitor for some time!) My new baby is due any day and I can't wait for him to visit Dr. Burton!
