Alergic to Luvs??

This happened to my daughter but we switched from pampers to the walgreens brand. We thought it was the diapers. Then when we switched back to pampers...the bumps still would not go away. We realized she was allergic to her bath soap and it wasn't the diapers at all! good luck!
FYI- i was just reading that the sam's club store brand diapers are made by pampers but are much cheaper. No clue if it is true, but we may try it to cut costs.

Yes. There is something in Luvs that broke my daughter out. It is also in the Target brand diaper. I had to stick with pampers the rest of the ways including pull-ups.

Luvs and Pampers are both made by the same company, you can use Pampers coupons on Luvs, and vise versa. I always found that regular non-brand name diapers (target, Fred Meyer, etc..) don't absorb the wetness as well as pampers and Luvs and Huggies. They may be cheaper, but you end up buying more in the long run.

Also, on the news recently there was a recall for Pampers/ Luvs brand diapers, for a certain chemical that was used in a wrong proportion and babies were breaking out in a chemical rash. Ever since that news cast, my 2 yr old has been breaking out only on one cheek or the outsides of the butt cheeks- not from wetness or poo- but maybe the chemical? who knows, but if Luvs are breaking out your kid, Pampers is made by the same company and the same chemicals are used to make them.

my daughter, a neighbor and a daycare girl all shared one pack of pullups (potty training and we split the pack) and ALL of them got a rash from that pack for some reason! We called the company about it cause it was all 3 kids from the same pack and had to send the rest of the diapers back to the company! That was weird.
Other than that I have had kids that get rashes from certain brands of wipes or diapers. It happens. Each company puts perfumes or dyes in their diapers and that is why.

Yup, some babies are allergic to specific diaper brands. My mother-in-law said my hubby was allergic to huggies, they had to do pampers for him. I thought it sounded weird to be allergic to a diaper at first too. But it happens.

I have a son that is allergic to Luvs and a couple other diapers. He breaks out in hives and diaper rash so bad. I called the Higgies company and they said some brands use talc powder in there diapers. Right now we are able to use Huggies and Pampers at times. I would call different companies and tell them your problem and see if they would send you a few trial diapers. That way you don't have to try the whole box. Huggies is really good about sending nice coupons out also.

Procter and Gamble makes both Pampers and Luvs. Just thought I would share, in case you call, you can ask about the differences and if there is anything in Luvs that is not in Pampers that can cause this type of rash. After working on diapers for a long time, I do know that those little beads you feel inside the diaper are chemicals, which keep your baby dry, but can also cause irritation. However, all name and store brand regular diapers will have these chemicals, called absorbent polymers. To get away from this, you would have to go to the chlorine free diapers like Seventh Generation, or Tushies, which uses wood pulp for absorbency. Huggies (Kimberly Clark) now makes Huggies Natural, which are fragrance free, organic cotton, hypoallergenic diapers. They never had these when my kids were in diapers, so I can't say how well they work.

Yes, my son was allergic to luvs as well. I had switched from pampers to luvs because there were more in the box for less. He broke out all over his butt so I called the doctor. She advised me to switch back to the previous brand and sure enough his rash started clearing up. I did not have to use a cream. I just let him air dry during naps.

yes.. my son broke out from luvs... I doubt that she needs a prescription creaam.. just use a different diaper and the rash will fade..

My son was allegeric to a couple of the brands, and I switched to the Babies R Us brand "Especially For Baby - Supreme". I loved that diaper!

First, it's super inexpensive and super absorbant. My son would pee a lot (had to check him for diabetes, it was so bad), and he would just soak dipaers w/in a couple hours. Nighttime was the worst because we're sleepoing for 6-8 hrs and he wouldn't get changed until morning

The Babies R Us brand held the urine great, and no reaction.

They make 2 types of diapers, so have to look for "Supreme" or maybe it was "Especially for Baby" but as long as both words in the upper left cprner of the box, then its the right diaper.

I use Luvs for my son at the moment, as I'm still finding the diaper that is best for him, but I've noticed that they don't "Breathe" as freely as some other brands. I discovered those small red bumps on my son also, but I treated it like heat rash, and they went away...

My daughter is 13 months old and she was/is allergic to everything! The only thing we can use on her is Pampers first only swaddlers and now she is okay with Baby Dry. When she outgrew Swaddlers (which she can still wear in the daytime but we need a size 3 for overnight) we had a tough time finding a diaper she could wear, she got tiny bumps from Cruisers (pampers) at first and I thought it would get worse. If she wasn't in daycare we would have switched to cloth but it is against DCF health codes to use cloth in a daycare (what the director and her district supervisor told me). As she is getting older she is getting a little better. She can wear Cruisers or Baby Dry without a rash as long as we use Bordeaux Butt Paste at the first sign of redness. Her daycare is also really good about changing her as soon as she is wet or every hour and a half if not wet or stinky.
She got a bloody rash (horrible for mommy and worse for baby!!!) from Huggies, and then lesser but still horrble rashes from Luvs, parents choice, and not as bad but still a rash from Target.
She is also still alergic to Desitin and Aquafor didn't make her rash any better. Butt Paste is the only thing that can touch her bum.

We have had to do the perscription before when she had the really horrible rash and it cleared it up pretty quickly.

I think it all depends on each child. We found out that we couldn't switch brands of diapers very often with my daughter. We had two brands we were working with and that caused her to break out. We went back to one brand until they were gone and then back to the other and haven't had any problems.

Our daughter is also very sensitive to laundry detergents and softeners, lotions and soaps. I can't get over how easily kids are getting these skin allergies, then I think of ALL the new chemicals they are exposed to that we never were as kids. Every soap has an ingredient to do this or that. We wore cloth diapers, not disposable ones. My parents never used fabric softeners and used a basic soap. Even our food has chemicals in it that we never had before. Just a thought!

We had problems with every diaper but Huggies. Some were allergic reactions, some were merely leakage.

Our BIGGEST problem turned out to be babywipes. Kiddo became increasingly allergic (we're talking bleeding rash). The more "hypoallergenic" the wipe, the worse it was. Easy fix though, and a durn sight cheaper than baby wipes. Damp paper towels. Easy easy.

But yes... contact dermatitis is very very common.

I was allergic to pampers when I was a baby, and my mom switched to luvs. Both my sons wear luvs and have had no problem. Funny how different peoples skin is.

I actually went to the doctor to see why my daughter was getting the red bumps also.... BUT my doctor told me she had a yeast infection. I was shocked at my 6 month old having a yeast infection but he prescribed me anti fungal cream and the bumps went away. Well after I was done with the case of diaper I bought of "Luvs" I bought these cheap diapers from a local family dollar. My daughter did not have any rash nor red bumps when she was out of those diapers I went to Walmart and bought another box of "Luvs" thinking she was cured now she can't get a yeast infection from the "Luvs" brand of diapers..... or so I thought!!! It's been ONE day since I put "Luvs" back on her and to my surprise...... She has the yeast infection again...... I'm not quite sure how or what's in the "Luvs" diapers to cause my daughter to keep getting infected but i'm determined to find out...

I have a 7 week old baby girl, we used luvs for our sons and so we tried using them for her. She had red bumpy spots on her thighs (where the diaper would rub) and on her butt. I immediately stopped buying them and got Pampers sensitive, within days the spots were gone and have not seen them since. The luvs feels really rough and somewhat like paper compared to others... Try the sensitive kind, they also have huggies naturals that are hypo allergenic as well. Hope this helps!

My kids were all allergic to all brands except Pampers. Now I'm prego with #5 and I'm just going to stick with Pampers...

Melony touched on what I was thinking. I switched my son to Luvs not too long ago (we were using Pampers, but I couldn't get them in size 2 from Sam's & Luvs were cheaper from the regular stores, so I figured I give them a shot). I've noticed that the Luvs don't lock the moisture away from the skin like the Pampers do. Especially with the runny breast-fed baby poop. If I don't get the diaper changed IMMEDIATELY, he will start to break out.

My son can only wear pampers or huggies, and my best friends baby can only wear huggies. There's so much junk in these diapers that's it's not uncommon for babies to be sensitive to diapers.
