Hi - does any one have any experience with the Airport Area YMCA Soccer or the BESA (Bedford Euless Soccer Association) with 3 to 4 year olds? This would be our first year of ever playing soccer so we aren't real serious players, just want to introduce a team sport concept. We thought the Y would be good for an intro but weren't sure and have heard mixed things. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Thank you so much for your replies. I'm so glad that you have had good experiences with the Airport Y for soccer. We will plan to sign up for the fall. Yeah!

My only experience with the Y is in Arlington. My nephew and niece played 3 and 4 year old, last year. It was fun for their age, most of the kids didn't know a lot, but seem to have fun. It's great to get them moving. Ofcourse you did have a few that played with the grass and didn't pay attention, however, on the other spectrum their were a few that you could see were good at the game and might play it for years to come. I say go for it. It's the most inexpensive way to get them started.

I am actually signing up my daughter, who is 4 for the upcoming season of soccer through the Airport Area Y.... a few family member have been gone through them and love it.... not too competative and great for the little ones.

Yes, we've been signing up with the Airport Y since my daughter was 4 and she's now 9! It's fun and they don't take the game too seriously - especially at that age. Now that my daughter is older, our coach is working on positions and more strategies with the kids - but it's low-key. Teams typically practice once a week with a game on Saturdays. Enjoy!

My 3 year old did Y soccer last summer through the White Rock YMCA. It was a TERRIBLE experience because he hated it. He did not want to do an organized sport - he wanted to look at rocks and eat the snacks.

My son was just too young.

I've heard great things about Soccer Tots for younger kids. They do drills and activities but don't play a formal game. They learn skills and have fun, but dont play a formal game.

We have done Airport YMCA and BESA. We prefer BESA by far. I felt that the YMCA was very unorganized, games starting late and not enough playing time per kid. BESA has only 4x4 in the 3-4 age group and the kids really get a chance to play. This will be our fourth year with BESA and we love it!
