Hi Moms -
My son recently has gotten really interested in airplanes. His birthday is around the corner, so we're planning an aviation-themed party. Any suggestions about fun, airplane-themed games and activities? Thanks!

What can I do next?

You could do a pin the propeller on the plane. Create a paper airplane and tehn have a flying contest. You could also get balsam airplanes from a craft store and use those as give aways/prizes. Also, consider anything that flies as fair game. My son was the same way and everything was about airplanes.

You could have them create and/or decorate paper airplanes. Then have a contest to see which one flies the furthest! You can also look up different types of paper airplanes.

They have cheap wooden gliders you can give for prizes. If there's just a few kids, then you can decorate and fly those.

They can play airplane tag. Instead of running, they put their arms out and "fly" around and tag each other. If tagged, the person has to freeze until someone else unfreezes them by tagging them.

You can serve cupcakes with plastic airplanes on each one.

Happy birthday to your son!

How about making kid arm-sized airplane wings for the kids to play with? Just cut some cardboard the size of your boy's arms, paint different colors, and attatch two fabric elastic bands for each arm. If you make them sturdy enough, the kids will run around in the yard playing airplane for hours! And if you have a set for each kid, the guests could take them home as part of their gift bag.

Do you have an aviation museum in your area? We have one that does birthday parties. If not, how about going to the airport to watch the planes, or a park near the airport where they can watch the planes landing and taking off? Or arrange a tour of your local Air Force Base? Making paper airplanes is always pretty fun.

I don't know your area very well, but I found this site - maybe there's a museum near you :)

You could do rows of seating like an airplane.
Then serve their lunch on a tray. Make it so that it's easy. Not a tray they
have to hold. They have TV trays you can buy (look @ thrift stores first).
You could even put cardboard along the rows of seats w/circle cut outs
for windows.

Hand out wing pins like they do on airplanes.

Someone can dress as the captain & someone as the stewardess.
You can even have a drink cart (use whatever you have).

Get a remote control airplane you can fly in the backyard (buy a cheap one).

Give out little packs of peanuts (make sure no nut allergies first).

Play pin the propeller on the airplane.

Give out tiny decks of playing cards.

Decorate the table w/little airplanes.

Get little foam airplanes you put together & have a flying (throwing) conest outside.

Make announcements into a cb looking speaker "This is your captain. Fasten your seatbelts. We are headed for blue skies & birthday fun". (etc.

Have fun.
