We traveled with our son at that age for an 8-hour flight and he was just fine, we just made sure to give him a bottle at takeoff and landing to help him equalize his ears. The motion of the plane actually helped him sleep through almost the entire flight! I did just learn a new tip from my doctor on how to stay healthier on flights, check with your pediatrician if it's okay to do this with your baby though. My doctor recommended putting a little bit of Neosporin on the inside of your nose, as the air on flights is dry, and causes cracks in the nasal passages, which is how you are more susceptible to germs, etc. Plus he said the Neosporin is an antibiotic, so it assists in fighting off any germs. Don't know if this is safe for kids, but may want to check with your doc. At least you can use it for yourself so you don't get anything and pass it on to the kids. :) Good luck, and enjoy your trip!
