just wanted to know if anyone has used name your own price through Priceline for air plane tickets. I just tried and it would be about $300 for me and my daughter to fly from Tx to CA which is about half the price of just going through South west which was 560.00 round trip. I really want to get to CA to see my sister whom I haven't seen in over 2 yrs!! We are on a tight budget and in fact I probably can't even afford to spend that kind of money right now but someting keeps pulling on my heart to get out there and see her. Anyhow just wanted to know any good/bad experiences with Name your own Price. TIA

What can I do next?

Just watch out for the taxes and airport charges - they're NOT included in the price. I had one friend use it that thought she was getting a great deal and ended up having to leave at an incredibly early time, and went thru so many stops that the airport charges and taxes were almost as much as the ticket!!!! Buyer beware.........

I never use discounters. I manage all the air travel for our family and my husband with our business.

I only use the American Airlines site for airfare or Southwest Airlines.

SW has some fantastic deals if you look. My hubby has to fly to Houston often and I get him down there for $112 round trip, routinely when they have an airfare sale. I book in advance because we know he is going. There are more rules with the special fares such as no changes, etc. HOWEVER, if for some reason you can't go and you don't use the ticket, as long as you call te airline ahead of time, you do not lose the $$, it stays in a credit for your next flight for a year.

We use American for many flights as well. We prefer non-stops but you can manage a better fare sometimes if you do take a layover or change planes.

It is easy to get to CA from TX, it just takes a little planning and research.

As for the discounters.... they are not going to take care of you if something goes wrong. You get what you pay for.

I used it several years ago and it worked fine. I don't use it now only because I have to have a straight flight with two kids. I found continental is the cheapest to get to L.A. or S.F.

I use them more for hotels, however, I have had a few friends use it for flight and got really great deals, there usually involves 1 or more lay overs and leave at 5 AM, but other than that, great deals...

I know we have used Priceline a lot for hotels and rental cars, but am not sure about flying. We probably have and if not have used hotwire or one of the other sites. It is worth it to save the money if you know when you are going and sometimes you can add flexible dates in on some of the sites and see if changing by a day or two in one direction changes the price. We have also used kayak.com, which compares airlines and several of the discounted websites prices. Hope you find a great deal and can visit your sister soon!
