Air Duct Cleaning - Who Do You Recommend?

Have any of you had your air ducts cleaned? I need to get ours done -- it's
been really dusty in this house lately, and although I now change our
filters every 30 days, it doesn't feel like it's making a difference. These
filters are supposed to be good for up to 90 days!

I've called Blackmon-Mooring and a couple of smaller companies. BM charges
$500 (and estimates a 6-8 hr job) while the smaller companies charge $260
(and estimates about a 2-hr job). That's not exactly jiving w/ me so I'm
wondering if any of you can recommend a company I should use (I've used BM @
our old house yrs ago, so am tempted to pay more as long as I get my money's
worth).

I'm also looking into replacing these disposable filters w/ a couple of
electrostatic ones.

Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Our local news just did a story about common scams with air duct cleaning. So, just a heads up to be very cautious if they report mold of any sort. That seemed to be a huge red flag in the report and people would waste a lot of money on lights and other techniques that weren't shown to remove mold, (even if the claim the house had a problem was true and most of the time, it wasn't).

When we moved into our first house, we had the ducts cleaned. The house was built in 1969 and was not a big house. We bought it in 1990 and I don't think the ducts (it had floor registers) had ever been cleaned before. The company we had do it had this thing about collecting the debris into a container so you could see everything that came out. (show it to you empty first, then after when they are done). I was amazed at the pile of sand, dirt, grit, dust, a few small lego pieces, lint, cat and dog hair, bit's of paper, a penny, etc. All in all the pile was almost 5 inches deep. Our airflow improved immediately. I can't say the house had a smell to it before, but I think it smelled really clean and fresh after the duct cleaning.
I can't remember what we paid for it, but I thought it was worth every penny!

You may want to check your duct work first. We had the same problem and it drove me CRAZY so my husband went up into the attic and some of the duct work had come loose so not only were we cooling our attic it also caused the dust to come through the vents. He fixed the duct work in about 20 minutes and tada- no more dust. I would start there first and then if you are still having a problem then call someone to clean the ducts out. You may want to look at the smaller companies- You could get 2 cleanings for the cost of one from Blackmon- Mooring- somone has to pay for their advertising.

Hello C.,
I did it last year and want to tell you - don't waste your money. I felt like i was ripped off after the "service" was done. recently i called the air quality company to do the air checked in a house, a few companies came and none of them recommened to do it - it's just money waste. all the time air is moving there and even if there is dust and it's not moved by this air, it's not going anywhere - don't touch it. If you do, you just disturb all that bad stuff and then it's going in your air. that is what they all saying. And if you still want to do it, just look for a negative pressue tipe cleanning.
