Never though of that but it probably prevents the "bounce back" too! Great idea and I will be using that the next stomach virus we get! Thank!!! A.
Seasoned Moms know all about the bucket placed next to the bed of the kid with the upset tummy, right? And we know how gross it gets! My own recent bout with frequent vomiting brought me to a helpful solution -- cat litter! I put a plastic bag in a plastic watebasket, poured in 2 cups of cat litter, and used that when my stomach would not give me enough warning time to get to the bathroom. All the liquids were absorbed to there was no leaking when I disposed of the bag, and there was virtually no odor, either.
I wish I had figured this out when my kids were small, but I didn't have cats at the time.
The litter I had on hand was the more expensive, clumping, deodorizing kind, since that's what my cats like, but I think the cheapest unscented kind would work just as well.
Someone pointed out that cat litter dust can be harmful, which definitely can be an issue. But there are many types, including recycled newspaper, sawdust, and crushed corncobs. I suppose one could even use crumbled paper towels - the goal is to prevent spilling and minimize mess. As someone else mentioned, seeing and smelling vomit can cause the one cleaning it up to contribute more to the problem.

Thank you for that advice. What a great tip! I will have to remember that the next time the stomach flu/virus pops up in our house!

Full time working mom to an 11 year old boy and a 7 year old girl who are my life.
thanks for the tip. I'll have to try it next time my little one is sick. There is no worse smell than vomit which, when smelled, seems to be contagious instantly!
Great tip. Also for elderly, people recovering from surgery...all of us that may have upset stomack. Not my case thank God!!! I can eat anything and everything and never get (fat):) and sick!!!
A send a flower to you for contributing with a positive solution when most of us are asking and asking. However, the generosity of many sharing their own solutions to the problems posted are just great!!! Just look how many new insights you received to solve the same situation!!!!

I had to laugh at your tip, but it sounds like it actually would work! We don't have a cat, but I think I'll pick up a bag of kitty litter for our next stomach bug..... Thanks for the tip!
Ha! Great idea--thanks! I'll pass it on!!!
Good idea! We always have litter on hand because of rabbits, so I'll try it next time. Thanks for sharing. :)
Great Tip! I will suggest that where I work as we have lots of vomiting kids in our school. The nurses office would benefit by keeping a cat litter bucket ready at all times.
Awesome!

Becareful. Breathing in cat litter fumes or dust is really bad for you... so just don't get to close to it... otherwise it does sound like pretty decent advice.
Great tip for at home -- I always carried airplane vomit bags in the car for carsick kids.
What a great tip!!! And now that school has started...tummy flu season is right around the damn corner! LOL!!!
I am off to the grocery store this am...I will buy some and try it out.
