So What Happened?

Well, here's what happened. Before we went, I explained to her that this movie was like Harry Potter, a pretend story about things that aren't real, she rolled her eyes at me. We talked about the relationship of the "characters" in the story, and how Bella's relationship is not healthy...again..she rolled her eyes at me.

So we go. Here's what she said - "Bella was a lame drama queen, all the kissing was just gross, but Sharkboy was cute." I asked her if she wanted to rent the first Twilight and she said "not really."

As someone said, you just have to know your child.

I love this website www.pluggedin.com they give reviews of movies, music, etc. Not just reviews if they like it or not but they break it down to positive elements, negative elements, sexual content, violence, crude language, etc. I no longer take my neighbor's "hey, its a great movie" comments seriously anymore. I have 3 girls 5,7 and 10 and know i am a little more conservative when it comes to what they watch. Try it.

Yes. It's very popular with tweens and young teens. I've seen it and so has my 11 y.o. who adores the Twilight saga. It has been terrific in motivating her to read more!

I agree with Amber. Young (tween) girls are very impressionable. It really bothers me that Bella is willing to give up her soul (or let it be dam*ed) for a boy. I do not want my 2 daughters to think this is something romantic and/or something to emulate. Thankfully, my girls have not shown the least bit of interest in the books or movies. If they do, I'L. tell them no, no matter what popular culture says is cool or "okay".

I went to see it with a friend and am now going to take my 8 year old to see it. She got really upset that she didn't get to go the first time. I think it is perfectly harmless and I am pretty strict when it comes to what movies they see. I loved it and think it is okay for her to see, so do a lot of other moms I know. Have fun!

I would say no. Our youth minister is even guiding/encouraging parents away from it for our teenagers, explaining that it is a movie about lust, not love.

I would think it would be fine. No dirty mouths, no nudity and no horrible violence. I mean, yeah there are a bunch of cute shirtless guys, but even commercials on tv have that. The only sexual content is kissing. I would let your daughter see it.

I would not let my child go see it, too much sexuality, violence. It is great for 15+ age group.

Hi L.....my daughter is also 11 and she and I saw it Monday night...I thought it was perfectly harmless, she thought the kissing scenes were gross and ducked her head but I'm sure that's to change any day now! :-)

I think so..the book was written by a mormon, so there is nothing really that racey. There are a couple of scenes that are scary..but to me, Twilight and New Moon are less violent than Transformers or Spiderman which I know a lot of younger boys watch.

I went Monday night to see it with my two younger brothers... Sounds kinda funny when guys want to see it. LOL. they are 15 and 25.

There is shirtless guys yes but there is really not much violence or sexuality in it at all. I would say take your 11 yo and have fun!

Here is my take on the Twilight series. While I do appreciate that there is no sexuality etc..very hard to come by for sure..I am very concerned at the depth of the relationships in this series. The whole "I would die for you" or give up who I am because I have to be with you thing, is a bit much for me. I worry about that age girls seeing relationships that are unhealthy like that, but again, I am very conservitive in my parenting! Just thought I would share that point of view. Plus, we tell my daughter, that it is PG-13 and we expect her to obey those rules..when I start teaching her that we will make exceptions, she will start expecting it more. Just my thoughts! ~A.~

Yes, I showed Twilight to my sixth grade class last year with all parents approval.

I was at the midnight premier with my daughter and some of her friends. All of the shows where we were were SOLD OUT and full of tweens and moms chaperoning.

It does have a lot of guys with no shirts and I didn't think the violence was over the top. I thought it was so funny when the charactor (Jacob/Taylor L) first popped on screen with no shirt. All the girls oohed and ahhed at the same time.

However, I realize I am a lot more lenient than some moms here.

I say it's OK for an 11-year old, especially if you let her see the first movie. The "sex" is only kissing, and no more violent than the first movie.

Interesting question. They certainly read the book in that age. I am a teacher and teach children that age. Especially the girls love the Twilight Saga. Sometimes I am surprised which movies they have already seen - much worse than Twilight in my opinion. Twilight is rated PG 13 which I think is appropriate because there are some pretty violent scenes in it.

My 7 year old saw it and loved it. So yes, I believe it is age appropriate for your 11 year old. It is clean. Bella and Edward kiss a few times but that's it. We LOVED it!

I took my 12 year old with me to watch the first one. My advice is if you have any concerns is to watch it yourself first. Whenever we have doubts, it is what my husband and I do. We were going to all go and see Watchmen when it came out. I saw it first and adviced my husband not to bring the kids to see it - he would enjoy it but not appropriate for the youngers.

Half the guys have their shirts off for a lot of the movie. But there's really nothing in it that I would think is inappropriate. There's only a couple of kissing scenes. There is some violence, but nothing gory or over-the-top (it is about vampires and werewolves, after all!). The books and movies are geared for tweens (although I'm 27 and love the books and movies, and so does my mom!). I know there's a website that explains the ratings of movies, and gives details of why it's rated what it is, but I don't remember what it is.

I think it is rated pg-13...so I would say no! I don't see putting trash into our kids brains...let them enjoy their worry free lives!
