Hi moms,
Can you give me some suggstions for great age-appropriate books that discuss sexual reproduction and puberty for a 9-10 year old girl? We already have the American Girl book (Care and Keeping of You, I believe).

Thank you!

"It's Not the Stork!" for ages 4+. "It's so Amazing!" for ages 7+. And "It's Perfectly Normal" for ages 10+. All by Robie Harris. Great series, clear, funny and easy to read. Good luck!

Ask the children's librarian at school or at the public library, they are such a wonderful (and often underused) resource!

I bought a book called "What's Happening to Me?". It talks about both genders and changes but it is also good to know how things work and change as they get older.

Good luck on your search.

There are a bunch of American girl books covering a broad range of topics. I thought the 'Is This Normal' book looked like it might be a good conversation starter that I might get for my own daughter. I'm not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for, though.

It's not the stork is a good one to introduce the topics.
There is a follow up for older kids but I can't think of the name.

Go to A Mighty Girl web site. They have a great list of books.

I would ask the librarian and/or the pedi for recommendations.

I ordered a free booklet with info from Tampax when my daughter was young.

Remember, along with the books, keep the lines of communication WIDE open so your daughter will feel comfortable to come to you vs going to peers, etc.

Ask your pediatrician, s/he may have something. I remember when I was a kid, my pediatrician had free booklets aimed at afferent ages that we were given at various well child check-ups. It's worth a try.
