After Lunch Crash! and Kinda Funny.

I am wondering if I am the only one that literally feels like they are going to pass out they are so tired after they eat lunch? I promised myself I was going to get to the bottom of it and work on it.
I usually always eat healthy for lunch, so I never understood the crashing feeling. So, anyways, whenever I work out at night I get suuuuper hyper and cannot sleep. I also read that eating an apple is more effective at waking you up than a cup of coffee.
SO, I ate an apple with lunch and I worked out and I feel fantastic!
I dont normally workout in front of my son, usually in the basement or the gym, but he saw me do it today and he was very concerned.
"Mommy.....do you have to poop??"
"Do you want me to get you a drink?"
"ARE YOU OK????"

Lol. Too funny. So my orginal question, do you crash after lunch, and I wonder why this happens?

What can I do next?

I'm the same way as Micky. I would always get that afternoon slump around 2 PM. I used to workout on my lunch break and that was a huge help in keeping me energized and preventing that afternoon slump. I've also heard that eating bread, pasta, carbs can relax you and make you tired. For me.. I find that drinking a tall glass of really cold water helps perk me back up. My mother swears that eating a slice of lemon can do that as well.

if you're eating lots of carbs, they turn into sugar so thats no good. you gotta eat proteins. some people think they can get energy from carbs but it's really protein you want the energy from. and you may have to really commit to a complete change of eating. you may not really see results for a couple weeks after changing your way of eating. knock out the bread, cereal, pasta ENTIRELY and eat more protein and veggies. It's so much more about what you eat than anything else. have you ever looked into eating Primal/Paleo? it's a super healthy way of eating that is guaranteed to give you more energy throughout the day, along with tons of other benefits. we've been transitioning to this lifestyle over the past couple months. kinda hard to give up certain things, but its worth the effort. hope you get that energy!

I seem to go in spurts with this. For a few months I will be fine but starting this past week when 2 o'clock hits I almost can't keep my head up!

Molly, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I always eat similar things for breakfast and lunch- it is always healthy stuff (fruits and veggies, some protein) small portions. I have heard that sugar causes the slump and that it helps to eat protein. I also work out in the early afternoon and it helps most of the time. Still, sometimes, even with a healthy breakfast and lunch and a workout, I get the slump and no amount of music, caffeine or cardio will pull me out of it. I nearly fell asleep at the dentist office the other day :( I will have to read the responses you get.
I know that my slump is a hundred times better than it used to be when I worked in an office- blame it on too much soda, crappy fast food/candy in the vending machine, fluorescent lights, and simply being bored! Frustrated that I still get it even when I am doing my best to be healthy though!

The energy in your body goes to the stomach to digest the food. Perhaps eating more small meals and not 3 larger ones per day would maintain your blood sugar levels too.

It depends. Sometimes.
When I worked outside the home, I'd get tired at 2pm.

Do you eat a good breakfast? That helps stave off the crash.
Don't eat foods that "put you to sleep". Eat things that give you energy.
What do you put in your lunch? Make sure it's balanced & put protein in there.

You're hyper after your workout because it releases endorphins.
Can you work out in the morning or early afternoon?

Yes, I used to crash after lunch. I have started taking my "lunch" later in the day (aka eat at my desk so I can leave for an hour) and going for a run or walk around 2:30. It wakes me up and gets me moving so that I can get through the rest of the day and night!
