I live on the Northside of Chicago (Uptown) and am looking for affordable childcare for my 5 month yr old son. I do not fall in the category to receive subsidized childcare but I also cannot afford 1900.00 a month. Does anyone know of any daycare thats afforable and decent?

What can I do next?

I was lucky to find a trust worthy/ cheap daycare near my job. I certainly do not qualify for the childcare program, however I def can not afford a high payment either. Have you tried googling daycares in uptown chicago? that's how I found the daycare were my little one is going to now.I actually called just about all that came up and interviewed all of them, Then visited a few locations and opted for the one that was closest to my job, had reasonable rates and saw the interest on the caregivers towards to toddlers and babies.
Hope you find one that fits your budget and standards.
Good Luck!

I would suggest the following website, it'll show you any daycares if you search with zip code or county.
http://childcarecenter.us/illinois_homecare#.TwUeQFawVmM
I also would check the DCFS status although I did find some non-DCFS licensed facilities when I was searching that were great as well.
Recommend always asking for references whether it's a big facility or a small home daycare.
Here is link to check DCFS-status.

I found a wonderful home daycare for my DS that was affordable in my area doing all this research and checking references.

Good Luck and hope this helps!

I came across a "Northside Parents Network" a few years ago. I know they have a website (just don't remember the URL offhand), but if you google them, it should come right up. I think they have babysitting coops and other parent-to-parent arrangements, along with lists/descriptions of preschools and public/private schools in the area. Maybe this will prove helpful to you.

My daughter went to Concordia's after school program for Kindergarten (the one by Bell school - Western/Addision). We LOVED it there.

They opened a center over by Avalon the next year, which wouldn't have helped us and we decided not to stay at Bell anyway. Anyway I can't recommend that location, but I can tell you that I really liked the other location. I'm not sure how much it is, but here is the website.

Well, it says there is a waitlist.... but I would get on it and see.

Good Luck
