I just found out I am expecting my 2nd child and we recently moved to the Barrington Area. I delivered my 1st at Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove. Which hospital did you like or not like? My Obgyn delivers at both however my daughter's pediatrician is only affiliated with St. Alexius. Both hospitals are equal distance from home.

Thanks Moms!

I delivered both my babies at St. Alexius and loved it. Every single nurse there was a wonderful help, and they were so great, I sent them boxes of chocolates afterwards!

Definately Good Sheperd, in my opinion. I had both my kids there, but their ped is also out of St. Alexius, but that was't a prob. The ped on staff at Good Shep looked over the kids, and then once we were released they went into their ped office for their first visiit. My son was in the hospital a few months ago he was at St. Alexius, I was not impressed at all.

Hi,
I delivered at St. Alexius. I had a c-section so I was there for a while and feel qualified to answer. :) The nurses were nice and so gracious. They made me feel comfortable. However, there was nowhere for my husband to sleep. We wanted to keep our son in the room with us, but as I was unable to get out of bed that first night I wanted my husband there. (I wanted him there everynight!) But they only had one chair in the room and it didn't even recline! Plus, it seemed they didn't have very many rooms as almost all were booked with two women in each. One other concern I had is that my doctor sent me over there early because my amniotic fluids were low and said I had to be monitored right away and deliver asap. Well, I sat in the nurses kitchen for an hour before I got into some room. And then I sat in the room for at least a half hour before anyone ever came to admit me and hook me up to monitors!! I was so worried! (it was our first child)
So, now we are planning on having our second child at Good Shephard. My friend delivered there and told me about her experience. They had a place for her husband to sleep and her admission process for c-section went smoothly.

I delivered all my kids at GSH and it was wonderful, plus they recently redid all the women's and children's floor (delivery). If your ped is only at St. Alexius tho, I would go there...or I would find a new ped at GSH.

Our ped is right across the street from GSH - which is closer to our home. I knew that in any emergency that the ambulances would take us to the closest hospital so I wanted to have ALL of our drs affiliated with that hospital.

I have already had to take a child from the drs office across the street for xrays. It's nice to be "right there" and just over to the outpatient or ER as needed. Believe me, you don't want to be driving all over with a sick or hurt child in the car.

Let me know if you'd like their info.

I had a c-section at Good Shephard. After reading the other posts I would say that as soon as I was admitted I had my own room (no roommates) and they monitored me immedately and prepped me for surgery. Everything went smoothly and there was a reclining chair for my husband to stay and sleep in (albeit, very uncomfortable). You are supposed to get a free pedicure or manicure while you are there, but the person wasn't available when I was there so they gave me a free voucher, which I never used since it was inconnveniet to go back to the Barrington health club to use, but I did use the free massage.

Good luck with your decision - I know it is a really hard one!
