Hello everyone,
My daughter started menstruating in December so when I started having to many periods in Feb. I thought it was because of the new "woman" in the house. Now that its April and I'm still having my period about every two weeks, I'm getting concerned. My children are 9 and 12 and I'm 29 years old, I'm not overly regular on my periods however have had a fairly close schedule for years. Now I'm wondering whats going on with my body, could it be my daughter, anyone have this happen before?

I had the same Problem so I went to the doctor who put me on birth control, I stayed on it for a couple of months then quit taking it because I was pretty moody on them. I am now having just regular periods with no problem.

My Mom had this problem as well. You should go see a doctor, could be something wrong. She had to have her uterus removed. Hopefully that won't happen for you. See the doctor so they can fix it!

I'd see the doctor since having this go on too long can cause anemia, which can lead to other problems. You're probably not there yet, but you don't want to be, either.

Dear S.,

I had this same problem when I was in college. It was soooo horrible. The worst part was that I could not get into the obgyn without bleeding. It was my first obgyn appt. ever and I was bleeding everywhere!!! Horrible. He put me on birth control and that did regulate me, but I gained almost 20 lbs. in a month and a half. Then I was dpressed, quit my job, cried, and refused to take that stuff ever again. I do have to say that I never have had that problem again and I lost the weight 2 weeks after discontinuing.

Are you already taking a birth control? I think now that I have learned so much more and am older that I would try the natural way. Something is off in your body. Visiting my OBGYN would be my first step and the getting my body in order would be the next. You can go to http://sozomax.com/muratgun and take a look there to get started. I would also consider finding a naturopath to help you out. I know one named Dr. Nettie Ramsey if you would like to speak to her.

I trully hope that you find your way in this and stop bleeding soon!

Blessings,

T. Gun

Go see a GYN. It could be something - may be nothing. But it has nothing to do with your daughter.

my first thought is endometriosis or adenomyosis. i have both. i didn't start having noticeable problems with them until i was 29. i also had fairly irregular periods that became regular for a few years. seeing a gynecologist is a good idea, but many gyn's are not good at detecting these diseases, so you need to research it yourself and not just trust one doctor. the endometriosis research association is a good resource. feel free to email me with any questions.

Hello, I am currently taking a College biology class and it talks about phermones (chemical signals which influence the behavior of other individuals). It says that "women who live in the same household often have mentrual cycles in synchrony, perhaps because the armpit secretions of a woman who is menstruating affects the menstrual cycle of the other women in the household". Hope this helps. I never knew this.

In my early 20's I had my "period" every 2 weeks. When I went into my ob/gyn in turned out that they where not periods but ovarian cysts. They put me on birth control and in a couple mouths they went away. I would suggest seeing your doctor. Having a period every two weeks is no fun.

It sounds like you have fallen into an anovulatory cycle. It happens a lot when you are not getting your hormones into sync to keep the lining of the uterus long enough to have a normal period. Your doctor can prescribe some progesterone cream or tablets to get you back in sync. I just had a prescription because my Mirena tends to prevent ovulation and prevent me from getting a full period.

In any case, it's worth a trip to your Gyn to see what's up.

You may no longer be ovulating. I would contact your OB/GYN and set up an appointment to discuss it. When you suffer anovulation, you may have more frequent periods (because your body sheds the lining right away when no egg is released) or they may be farther apart. Menstrual issues can point to other problems, so if this has been occurring for a few months, I'd talk to the doc.

Do you drink milk that has all those hormones added? Most milk you buy has it. I can't remember where I read it, but little girls around the country are starting periods at early ages and it's getting blamed on hormones in milk and milk products.
I know your only 29 but another thing it might be, is menopause? That's how old my dad's sister was when she went through menopause, so it can happen that early....
This might not be A LOT of help, but I hope it does help at least a little. Hope all turns out good for you. Good luck!

Dear S. ... make an appointment with your GYN ASAP! It may be nothing, but it could very well be a problem. Early detection is key! There are so many symptoms of serious problems that are also symptoms of "no big deal" in women. Protect yourself and be sure!

L.

BTW: I have three daughters ... two teenagers. Everyone became pretty much "in sync" fairly rapidly.

Hi S.,

First off, I have never heard of such a thing, where simply because your daughter has started her cycle, that you would increase frequency of yours. One isn't related to the other. Sounds like a trip to your GYN is in order, especially if you've been regular (or pretty much so) up to this point, it could mean something is wrong, or not, but I think you need to consult with your doctor. Good luck to you!

As I was reading it seems that maybe it could be alot of different things or nothing at all but I would go see your gyno. Especially if you are not getting your yearly. My mom ignored unusual periods like this and just wouldn't go to the doctors. She finally went after years of it, and always fatigued. And she had fibroid tumors, three of them. One was the size of a golf driver head. But she was able to take care of it. If you do have something I would get yourself checked out at least. It won't hurt to make sure you are doing good!

Hi S. - I had the same thing happen quite spontaneously. No pain just 2 week cycles. I thought it was just a pre-menopause thing so I just lived with it and talked to my doc at annual exam. I was surprised when she was pretty bothered by it. She asked me to have a pelvic ultrasound that week which revealed a simple cyst on the ovary. She also did a uterine biopsy to rule out cancer. She prescribed birth control pills and an re-evaluation after 90 days.

Please make an appt this week!

Blessings!

In addition to seeing a doctor, you can chart your cycle to see what is actually happening. Then you'll have more information so that the dr can be more accurate on what to do. It could be midcyle spotting (from ovulation) or you could be ovulating every other week. I'd read Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility for information on charting.

I've not had the problem myself, but have had friends with this issue. I would tell you to get to the doctor as soon as you can; some friends have had these symptoms, which turned out to be some serious female issues. Have a pap smear done, and you'll at least be able to put your mind to rest about that! They may also be able to prescribe birth control pills for regularity.

I too would encourage you to see your doc. He will probably run tests, including testing your thyroid. If he does, be sure that he orders a full metabolic panel, instead of just a TSH level test. There are several different tests that can be used to check thyroid levels, but using only a TSH test can give false results.

Best of luck,
S.

You did not say if you had been to the doctor or not, but my advice is to go. My own personal experience tells me that you may be suffering from fybroid cysts. As the fybroids grow, your periods become longer and heavier. I was up to bleeding for 2 1/2 to 3 weeks a month. If they are found early enough, they can be removed without any damage to your reproductive organs. The other option is to have a hysterectomy. I was 37 when I had mine.(Best decision I ever made). I was 19 when I was diagnosed with the cysts which at that time they treated with birth control pills. Please see a doctor, this can turn into a serious health risk. I am speaking from my own life experience.

I would make a quick appt with your doctor. Could be many many things. But the doc can usually tell pretty quickly. It could be birth control, hormone levels, endometriosis, all which are easily treated. Just call your doc. Don't be scared. It may be as simple as putting you on birth control to keep them regular.

I think the idea that women in the same household menstruate at the same time is fiction. If you find that every other "period" is light it may be that you are having ovulation bleeding. and you may just be more aware of it because of your daughter. Ovulation bleeding is not something to worry about. Also, stress usually postpones your ovulation making your cycle longer. So I don't think it's stress. If I were you I'd be safe and see my OB though.
